Living in God’s Seasons
Key Verse: Acts 1
Ice Breaker Question:
If your life had a theme song that played every time you walked into a room, what would it be?
Opening Prayer:
Lord, thank You for bringing us together today. We trust that You are a God of purpose and timing, and that every season we walk through is known by You. Open our hearts to hear from You, help us to understand where we are, and give us the willingness to grow in it. Teach us to trust You more and to follow You faithfully. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Acts 1:6-8 NKJV
2 Key Lessons from Acts 1:6-8:
1. Times and seasons are designed by and ordered of God. His eternal
purposes are worked out within the context of His times and seasons.
2. Whatever season He is calling you to, you will receive His power in order to fulfill His purposes.
Right now, we are in a season of God.
Genesis 1:14 NKJV
God created the world TO RUN IN SEASONS.
Every season has its own unique attributes and purposes. Seasons cannot be exchanged as God designed them that way.
Q. Where do you find yourself wanting to control the timing of your life instead of trusting God’s seasons?
Leader Prompt:
Guide your group to reflect on where they may be resisting the season God has them in.
Practical Application:
This week, identify your current season, surrender it to God in prayer, and ask for His power to walk it out faithfully.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV
Seasons in nature are a METAPHOR for the seasons OF and seasons IN our lives.
Whatever season you are in, there is a purpose.
Seasons OF our lives:
Four seasons: growth, survival, accumulation, distribution.
Seasons IN our lives:
Singleness, marriage, children, parenting, grand parenting, struggle, blessing, etc.
These are often the ‘small picture’ seasons, typically lasting from a month to several years, within our broader life journey.
The seasons IN our lives happen during the seasons OF our lives.
When you recognize your current season, life starts to feel simpler.
You may be in a difficult season, realize God put you in, and you might be discouraged. He has placed you in it because it is part of your spiritual growth. Only this season will help you to learn.
Life is about EXPECTATIONS.
God has expectations of us, and His expectations are lived out within the context of our life seasons.
Q. Building on this, how can understanding your current season of life help you better align your expectations with what God is doing in you right now?
Leader Prompt:
Help your group identify both their “big” and “small” life seasons and see how confusion can come from misaligned expectations.
Practical Application:
This week, identify your life season and take one step to align with what God is asking of you.
Right expectations result in health and growth.
Wrong expectations result in confusion, frustration, and anger.
Every season contains within it a measure of expectations.
Once you understand your season, you can adjust and get the most out of it.
HOW TO LIVE in God’s season for your life:
1. BELIEVE, UNDERSTAND, and ACCEPT that God works in
seasons. And His timing often isn’t yours, but it is always
perfect.
2. Ask God to show you WHAT THE PURPOSE of the season is.
3. STOP trying to change the season or run away from it. You
can’t unsummer summer.
4. ENJOY the season and get as much from it as you can,
knowing it has a TIME LIMIT.
5. Take what Goes does in you during this season and SHARE IT
FREELY with those around you. Give your experiences away!
6. THANK GOD for your season. Why? Because He chose to place
you in the midst of it. You don’t need to fully understand your
season – you just need to let God have His way in it.
Q. As you go through each of these steps, which one stands out to you the most, and where do you feel God is challenging you?
Leader Prompt:
Walk your group through each step and pause briefly to let them reflect on where they are doing well and where they may be struggling in their current season.
Practical Application:
Go through each step this week, ask God to show you where you need to grow, and take one intentional step to apply it in your current season.
Remember, God is using seasons to make you more LIKE JESUS.
Embrace the seasons in your life as AN ACT OF WORSHIP AND
SERVICE to God.
Closing Prayer:
Father, thank You for speaking to us today. Help us to trust Your timing, even when it’s different from our own. Give us strength to walk faithfully in the season You have placed us in, and help us to grow, learn, and share what You are doing in our lives. We surrender our seasons to You and ask that Your will be done in us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
