Key Verses Judges 14-16
Jurassic Park movies are all the same.  The Jurassic Cycle: Rich guy makes dinosaurs, man cages dinosaurs, the dinosaurs escape, the dinosaurs eat the b-list actors, a-list actors survive to make a sequel, rich guy makes/finds dinosaurs.
Michael Crichton wrote this book to actually question, “how far should we let science take us?
Albert Einstein quoted:“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”
Meaning, we can get so far into our advancement, that we might advance ourselves right into disaster.
Q. What are some examples of how this has and might happen in our world today?
Jurassic Truth: There Are Things We Create That Have The Power To Consume Us.
If we mess around with things enough then we are actually running from the dinosaurs of our own making. Human being tend towards self-destruction.   It is like we can’t get enough of things that hurt us.
“Americans are increasingly becoming more self-destructive in a ‘nightmarish’ trend” – USA Today article from Feb 2018.
Jurassic Dinosaurs eating away at our souls.
Q.  What is something you have allowed to consume you and how did it have power over you?
The book of Judges is kind of like the Jurassic cycle of the Bible.  In the book of Genesis, God forms his family from a man named Abraham.  In the book of Exodus God saves his family from slavery to Egypt through Moses.  In Leviticus, Deuteronomy and Numbers God informs and instructs His people how they are going to live.  In the book of Joshua God gives His people the Promised Land and they start to take ownership of all these Pagan nations that God is judging through giving his people their land.  But Joshua dies and the people are left leaderless and they lose the vision of who they are and what they are called to do.  Nothing will wreck our lives faster than losing our vision that we have from God of what our lives should be.
Judges Cycle: Israel is blessed.  Israel rebels and forgets God.  Israel is handed over to enemies.  Israel remembers God and cries out to him.  God sends a Judge to save Israel.  Israel is blessed once again.
In the age of Judges, everyone was doing what they thought was right.   Samson was a Nazarite and there were 3 vows a  Nazarite was to take: they were not allowed to touch a dead body, drink alcohol or cut their hair.   Two out of the three vows were already broken in the first nine verses of this chapter.  He went down to where the grapevines were (he was not suppose to drink wine) and he killed a lion and scraped the honey from it (coming in contact with a dead body).
#1  SELF-DESTRUCTIVE TENDENCIES TAKE ROOT WHEN WE LET WHAT WE COULD DO OVERSHADOW IF WE SHOULD DO IT.
Samson let his strength go to his head.
Q. What is an example of something you did because you could do it, when if fact you know you should not have done it?
#2 SELF-DESTRUCTIVE TENDENCIES CAN BECOME COMFORTABLE NORMALITIES.
God’s people were suppose to rule over the land, but they became comfortable and agitated at Samson.
Q. Why were the Israelites agitated with Samson and what are the dangers in becoming ‘comfortable’ with our sin?
# 3 SELF-DESTRUCTIVE TENDENCIES ARE OFTEN MASKED BY OVERCONFIDENCE.
Samson grows comfortably overconfident.  Up to now, he was able to break out of all he had gotten into.
Q. How has your overconfidence got you into troubling situations?
#4 SELF-DESTRUCTIVE TENDENCIES BRING US TO A PLACE OF BROKENNESS WHERE GOD IS READY TO MEET US.
Samson was broken and victory goes to the Philistines heads.
Then he realized he had been a fool for too long and when he hit rock bottom he called out to God and God answered.
Q. What was your ‘rock bottom’ that you cried out to God and how did he answer you?
#5 SELF-DESTRUCTIVE TENDENCIES ARE BROKEN THOUGH THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST.
PRAY FOR EACH OTHER, THE LOST, WOONSOCKET AND OTHER UPCOMING CAMPUSES, THE CHURCH, THE NATION AND LEADERS AND 15 WISHES AND GUATEMALA MISSION. ALSO PRAY FOR NIGHT TO SHINE, AND THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY THAT COME TO TRUNK OR TREAT .
