Key Verse: Philippians 2
Philippians 2
Philippians 2
The GOSPEL is TRUE whether we BELIEVE it or not.
Philippians 2:1-2 (ESV)
Paul wrote this letter to the Philippian Church from prison near the end of his life. The Philippine Church was a good church. They were generous, they helped Paul on his excursions many times. When other churches could not tithe, they tithed. They were faithful and close to Pauls’ heart. The one thing he wanted them to hold onto, is that the Gospel is true.
If the Gospel is true:
-
Let your ACTIONS and LIFESTYLE show the HOPE you have in the GOSPEL.Philippians 2:2 (ESV); Ephesians 4:3 (ESV)
Paul knows they know the Gospel but he wants us to understand that if we really believe the Gospel we need to show it by our walk. Serve others so that they may see the Hope we have. We don’t go to church we ARE the Church. We are to Live like a happy, united family. Love one another. We should rejoice in that the fact that we have a Hope that Jesus is coming back.
Q. What difficulty may you have keeping unity with other believers?
Q. How can you live as you have hope in the workplace, at home, with your neighbors, etc.?
We are GUIDED by the MIND of CHRIST, not our own.
We need to be guided by the mind of Christ, not our emotions, not our circumstances but let the word shape our minds.
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV); 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
We are to let the word of God challenge us. We need to submit to the Word of God even when we don’t want to.
Q. In what ways have you been challenged by the Word of God?
If the Gospel is true:
2. Walk/Live like the ONE you CLAIM to FOLLOW and EMPTY yourself.
Philippians 2:5-8
Jesus did not come to live an easy life. He deserved to be loved, but was hated. He deserved to be revered but was reviled.
He deserved to be followed and served, but He came to serve. If we have that same mind, then we ought to live like Jesus.
Philippians 3:10; Psalm 119: 89-90
We follow and as he suffered we suffer, we die to self.
Your FEELINGS are TRUE but they are NOT ALWAYS right.
Feelings come and go but the word of God and His faithfulness are everlasting. It is time for us as Christians to really believe
the word of God.
Q. What are some feelings you have that get in the way of fully following Jesus?
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV); Mark 1:35 (ESV); Romans 8:19 (CEV)
The world is waiting for us Christians to really act out what we claim to believe.
If the Gospel is true:
3. LIVE like you are part of the BODY of CHRIST.
Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV); 1 Peter 2:9 (AMP)
If we claim to love Him, we must join His mission.
Q. What are some actions you can take to live more like you are part of the body (i.e. serving, tithing, attending church weekly)?
If the Gospel is true:
4. LIVE as if you are EAGERLY expecting a REWARD.
Philippians 2:9-11; James 1:12 (NIV) ; Revelation 22:12 (NIV)
Challenge: Practice living as you Believe, show that you are truly a part of the Body of Christ. Come to team night and sign up to serve: pour coffee to the glory of God, park cars to the glory of God, teach the children to the glory of God not only teaching the children but allowing a parent who needs to hear the word of God attend service.
