The Gospel is the Solution for the Problem of Sin – Pastor Geyser

Not only has the Corona virus caused so much suffering and pain, but there is another ‘pandemic’ or disease that also causes us pain and suffering and that is sin.

Romans 3:23 ESV; Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV

Every one of us is affected by sin.  It causes tremendous heartbreak, chaos, damage, confusion, and even death.  Easter is the solution. Easter reminds us that God has provided a tremendous solution to the problem of sin.

Somehow, we have lost the very reason for Easter- that Jesus died for our sins and was buried and rose again.  Easter should remind us of the Gospel.  We, as God’s people, need to understand it should not be a weekly celebration or even a yearly celebration, but it should be celebrated every day.  It’s the Gospel, the Good News.

Ice-breaker question:

Q. How does celebrating Easter with your family now, compare to when you were a child (example: was there more emphasis on the Gospel or the family dinner, etc.)?

GOD HAS PROVIDED A SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM OF SIN: JESUS

  1. Jesus dealt with sin.

Psalm 51:5 ESV

We inherited Adam’s sinful nature.  Sin affects every single individual.

  1. Penalty for sin:

Romans 6:23 ESV

Sin is the cause of death.  First of all, it is spiritual death. We are cut off from God, we have no relationship and no fellowship with him because we are dead in our sins.  Jesus paid the price in full. He took care of the law because the law condemns and Jesus’s work is the work of grace.  The law condemns but grace forgives.

Q. Before knowing Christ, when did you feel regret for the selfish things you had done?

B. Power of sin:

The power of sin grips people, families, nations, holds us captive, and keeps us in bondage. Man cannot free himself.  We don’t have the power, we don’t have the wisdom or anything in our own strength to break free from the power of sin.  But Jesus, on the cross, broke the power of sin.

John 8:36 ESV

Sin need not have power over us because Jesus death with it at the cross.

Q. In what areas of your life do you need God to loosen the grip of certain sins?

C. Presence of sin:

Sin has an awful presence.  We can still feel the very presence of sin even though, as Christians, He has delivered us from the penalty and the power of sin.  We will be delivered from he presence of sin. We are headed for a city with foundations whose builder and maker is God (Hebrews 11:10).  He is preparing a place for us and because of that we can rejoice.

Q. When you you felt the awful presence of sin?

John 14:3 ESV; Revelation 2:14 ESV

THE LAW CONDEMNS BUT GRACE FORGIVES

2. Jesus dealt with death.

Ephesians 2:1-3 ESV

Sin is the cause of spiritual death.  When we are spiritually dead we have no relationship with God. We still face a physical death, which means, if we die in our sin we are separated from God for all eternity.

Q. What did you think of death prior to becoming a Christian (when was the first time you thought about it or did you even think of it)?

2 Thessalonians 1:9 ESV; John 3:36 ESV

Hebrews 9:27-28 ESV

Jesus dealt with spiritual death on the cross. Through him we can have a relationship with our heavenly Father.   Jesus his the remedy, the Gospel is the solution.  The grave has been swallowed up in victory (1Corinthians 15:54).

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 ESV; Revelation 1:17-18 ESV

We as God’s people do not fear death because we know that those in Christ who have passed away are coming back again!  Because He lives, we will live forever!

Q. Even though you know that you will live forever with Jesus, do you still fear death and why?

3. Jesus dealt with eternity.

John 11:25-26 ESV; John 14:2-3 ESV

ETERNITY WAS DEALT WITH AT THE CROSS

1 Corinthians 15:3-4; John 3:16

Jesus was the first person, because He became one of us, to be raised from the dead and to live eternally.  Before Jesus died and rose again, others died and were raised from the dead, for example Lazarus.  He was raised from the dead by the power of the word of Jesus.  He walked out of the tomb alive, but Lazarus died again.  He wasn’t raised unto eternal life because Jesus had to be the first fruits of them who was resurrected unto eternal life. Jesus lives forever and because of that true believers will never die we will live forever and ever.

Revelation 1:18 ESV; John 11:25-26 ESV

WE SHOULD SHARE THE MESSAGE OF EASTER EVERY DAY!

Romans 1:16 ESV

WHERE ARE YOU? HAVE YOU MADE A COMMITMENT TO JESUS?
