Key Verse: Psalm 145

Guatemala has 35 ministries,10 Staff members, and  60 serve team members.  They teach in schools – little children, elementary, and teens.  Some of these kids do not have parents because they could not afford to take care of them.  

GLORY DEFINED:

-Things that SECURE His praise! (Makes you want to sing a song)

-His DISTINGUISHED Qualities (one that is different from everything else)

-What about him brings people to a State of GRATIFICATION and EXALTATION? (Ie ‘When her daughter was born she was in her glory’)

-The HEIGHTS of his achievements

-His MAGNIFICENCE.

Q. What are some aspects or qualities of God make you shout out in praise?

  WHAT IS THE GLORY OF GOD?

1. I grow in Christ when I come to APPRECIATE the Glory of God.

We can sing songs when things are going great, but where is God in the bad?  Sometimes God’s glory does not look the way we want.  When darkness comes and trouble comes we tend to blame God and leave him.  

 Psalm 145:4-5 (NLT) 

Most people who call themselves Christians have no idea what the glory of God is or the highest things of His achievements are.  When we don’t understand the glory we diminish it and remove the value of it.  An example might be someone saying: ‘glory to God’ because they just scored a good parking space, but that is not our Father’s glory.  When bad things happen in our lives, God’s glory is in the solitude he brings.  An example Pastor Brandon gave was an orphan who was pregnant with her father’s child – God surrounded her with his people, he gave the family peace.  That is God’s glory.

Q. In what ways might have you diminished God’s glory in your poor understanding of it?

2. I grow in Christ when I ENJOY the Glory of God and seek to ENHANCE it.

When we remove the value of his glory we mistake who he is, His world, His word, His wonder, His power, His jealousy over us, His strength, His goodness, His justice, and His wrath.   We mistake His purpose in our lives. We mistake the order of our own house (not praying, worshiping, or talking about Him from when we wake up until we go to bed etc.) and in turn we mistake the order of His house (the Church) and His eternal house (Heaven).

Q. Can you share a time in your walk with Christ where you did not seek God’s glory in your home, how had that affected your life outside your home, church, or even your view about heaven and eternity?

Q. In what ways now are you seeking to enhance and enjoy God’s glory?

3. I grow in Christ when I realize the Glory of God is revealed in saving ME.

Isaiah 45:5-6 (NIV)

Before we did a single thing for Him, He chooses us, sets us apart for Himself, calls us His own, gives us a title of honor (our identity in Christ). He draws us to himself.  He has compassion on us.  When we offered Him nothing he gave us everything. 

Romans 3:10 – 11

We want to seek him but none of us truly seek him.  If we don’t ask to see his glory we are not going to be able to see him.  His glory is on display everywhere.  It is in the death, it is in the divorces, it is in the solitude. He is in control of everything.

Q. How have you witnessed God’s glory during a tragedy or difficult time in your life?

 4. I grow in Christ when I ASK HIM to see His glory.

We wouldn’t blame him or leave him if there was just glory in the ocean or farm animals, we blame him when darkness comes into our life, and we think he forsakes us.

ISAIAH 45:6-7 

EXAMINE 5 INDIVIDUAL PARTS OF THE GOSPEL: 

Q:  Beauty from what?  A:  ASHES

Q:  Proclaiming good news to who?  A:  THE POOR

Q:  Healing who?  A:  THE BROKEN

Q:  Setting who free?  A:  THE PRISONER

Q:  Creating light from what?  A:  DARKENSS

God is not trying to draw us away from the bad things in our life, he is trying to draw us to himself.

Psalm 46:1-11

This Psalm was written after the Angel of the Lord shows up and slaughters 185000. God is killing his own creation.  They don’t even know who killed these people and then God says: ‘Be still and know that I am God.”  The Jews, his chosen beloved people, left Him.   After 400 years the earth went silent, The Angel of the Lord shows up, Jesus.  This Angel who just saved these people is now hanging on a tree.  This time He was there to kill only Himself. 

All He wanted to do was show them: 

(#1) HOW GLORIOUS He was 

(#2) How IMPORTANT and VALUABLE they were

WHY?  To secure “A PEOPLE” for Himself.  

  The whole story of him was about what He did FOR YOU

He is our provider protector defender.  He wants us.  He desires us.

 SECRET

When you read scripture and look for his glory BACK THEN you can see where his glory is RIGHT NOW.  TODAY. HE IS SECURING A PEOPLE FOR HIMSELF.

Q. What is something you can name right now where you have failed to see God’s glory in?

When we understand how VALUABLE we are to God, we can properly GROW in our LOVE for His GLORY, and discover the JOY of this life, found only in CHRIST.
