Key Verse: John 20:1-23 ESV
The true gift of Easter, is the gift that God gives us which we ignore. It is the greatest gift we can have because of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord. The gift of the Holy Spirit. It is true Christ died for our sins, but much more than that, He wants us to experience the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives every day.
Life drains us.
The Holy Spirit is more important than Jesus Himself. It is for our advantage. It is better to have the Holy Spirit in us than Jesus walking beside us.
God has given Jesus the right to give us the Holy Spirit. The Church is the Body of the risen Savior and we are the hope of the world.
WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO GET RE-CHARGED BEFORE WE GET DIS-CHARGED.
We are slowly winding down as we get older.
Q. How is this true for you? How is life different for you (spiritually, mentally and physically) as each decade passes?
We worry about our phones not being charged more than we worry about ourselves being charged. We were made in the image of God, sin corrupted us but God makes us righteous through Jesus and keeps us grounded through the Holy Spirit. We need to be properly connected to our Creator, the One who has the power we need.
Jesus had access to heaven. Jesus makes us pleasing to the Father. It is not what we feel or our faithfulness but what Christ did for us.
This is the life Jesus modeled for us. We can live the life Jesus lived by the power of the Holy Spirit. However, some of us listen to the voice of the devil and he makes us feel worthless. We need to receive the Holy Spirit so God can speak to our hearts.
Q. We, as Christians, have the power through the Holy Spirit to do what Jesus did, heal the sick and the oppressed, then why is it hard for some to believe they have the power, through the Spirit, to pray over the sick so they can be healed? Can you share an experience regarding this?
THROUGH THE CROSS JESUS MADE A WAY FOR ANYONE WHO RECEIVES HIM TO EXPERIENCE AN EMPOWERED LIFE.
1. BECAUSE THE GRAVE IS EMPTY WE HAVE ACCESS TO THE PEACE OF GOD THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT.
We are so technically advanced that we think science and technology will help our world be more at peace.
Q. What technology today causes you to have no peace and why ( example: news, phone, twitter, fb etc.)?
“Receive the Holy Spirit”. We do not have to have all of our questions answered to believe in Jesus. We don’t know how everything in life works.
Q. What is an example of something you are forced to use even though you don’t have a clue how it works? What analogy can we make from this regarding not having all the answers in order to believe in Jesus?
The world cannot give us peace.
2. BECAUSE THE GRAVE IS EMPTY WE HAVE ACCESS TO THE TRUTH OF GOD THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT.
In our culture we don’t know what truth is. Everyone has a different truth. But we can know the truth of Jesus. When the enemy throws lies at us, the Holy Spirit in us shows us the truth.
Q. What lies does the enemy throw at you? Do you rely on the Holy Spirit to thwart these lies and if you are not, why?
The Holy Spirit is our teacher, He reveals the truth to us.
Q. When have you tried to speak the truth about God to someone and became frustrated because they did not understand? Does knowing that the Holy Spirit reveals the truth about God to people lift the burden off your shoulders and how?
3. BECAUSE THE GRAVE IS EMPTY WE HAVE ACCESS TO THE CONFIDENCE GOD GIVES THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Q. What are some things you do (or not do) because you lack confidence?
Pray for each other, the lost, campuses, nation and leaders.
