Key Verse: Genesis 1
Our world is in a power crisis. There are lots of debates, arguments, tension, and stress about power. We all know we need power. What is powering us today may not be here tomorrow. We need physical power and spiritual power. The physical speaks to the spiritual. Like eating bread to strengthen us physically and feeding on the Bread of Life, the word of God, to strengthen us spiritually . Our body is a power cell. Every moment we are living we are emitting power. We need to get strength in our life or we will be destroyed by all the stress and pains in our life.
POWER for LIFE comes from the AUTHOR of LIFE.
Genesis 1:1 (ESV)
To get power we need the right connection. God made us to connect through speech. We connect to each other by talking. Speech is a connector right from Genesis 1. This is how we connect to God, he speaks and we hear. When we want God to speak to us we open the Bible. The God the universe wants to speak to us. God’s word is the connection to the One that created us. No one is here without God!
Q. Can you share how God is speaking to you through a situation in your life?
Colossians 1:16 (ESV).
All things were created through and for Him. We are not just created by God but also for God. Whatever we do, we do it for God. We are not here for ourselves but to bring glory to Almighty God.
Q. How are you bringing glory to God in your day to day?
Truth: What STARTS you SUSTAINS you.
We don’t take diesel and put it in a gas engine. We need to know what feeds our spirit and then give our spirit more of that. God started us. We may have gone off track but the same God that started us can find us and restore us to his original intention.
Genesis 1:2,3 (ESV)
That phrase in Genesis 1:2 is a descriptor of all created matter before the word of God speaks to it. God’s word is the means by which we are no longer formless and empty. The thing we need to bring fullness, form, and shape to our life is God’s word.
Pastor Tim used the example of a balloon animal. He filled the balloon, formed it into a dog shape, and sealed it. In the same way God fills us and seals us with His spirit. Now we are full and have shape and form.
1. God’s WORD puts me TOGETHER.
We need truth to put us together. God speaks and things happen. Life comes into existence. He speaks and things start to happen in our lives.
a. Receiving God’s Word FORMS my FAITH.
Romans 10:17
If we want faith we need to get God’s word in us. We need to put the word in if we are going to believe his word. Jesus said He was going away and then coming back. There are people who won’t be ready for Christ’s return because they had stopped reading the letter He sent us. He wants us ready. It gives us faith when we see the world gone crazy because we read the letter he sent us.
Q. How does reading and absorbing God’s word excite you about His return?
2 Timothy 3:15 (ESV)
God’s word make us able to understand. The word is a light. We need light in our life we need to read and listen.
1 Peter 1:23 (ESV)
b. Receiving God’s Word REFORMS my BODY.
God’s word fixes our body. Life without God will lead to disease and disrepair of our bodies. God gave the Israelites a specific diet for them. The word of God helps us live healthy lives. The problem of diseases cause by smoking, sex outside of marriage, alcohol exist because something causes it. If we treat our bodies improperly our bodies will rebel accordingly.
Psalm 107:20 (ESV); Psalm 119:50 (ESV)
God’s word delivers people from their diagnosis.
Q. How has unhealthy living, a life devoid of truth affected your health and how is his word delivering you and bringing healing?
c. Receiving God’s Word INFORMS my MIND.
Not everything we are learning is worth learning.
Psalm 119:98–99 (ESV)
If we want to be smarter than others we need to get a hold of God’s word. We need to pump up others with it, especially If we are an employer, we need to pump our employees with it (this may have to be secretly).
Q. How are you sharing the word of God with others (co-workers, neighbors, classmates)?
Psalm 119:130 (ESV)
d. Receiving God’s Word TRANSFORMS my HABITS.
Psalm 119:11 (ESV)
We meed more of the word for more power in the face of temptation. The Devil can only take so much of us quoting back the scriptures.
Q. What example can you share of how you used the world to have more power in the face of temptation?
2. God’s WORD SETS me APART.
Genesis 1:6–7 (ESV)
God’s word separates – he creates space on the first 3 days on last 3 days he fills the space. He brings order and structure to the heavens and earth in 6 days. He speaks and things happen. He speaks and he operates separating dark from light, land from sea, and disorder from order.
God separates first and he does this to set us apart. He created a division in our heart between the world and the world to come. Once we come to Christ, we are no longer at home and we are not going to be liked here.
John 17:17 (ESV);
He is makes us holy and set apart for special purposes. He separates us from the world to fill us with his goodness. If we are doing life the way the world is, we are not sanctified. If we are sexually immoral, not tithing, not serving etc., we are not sanctified.
Q. What might be something you need to change about the way you live to be separated from he world?
1 Peter 1:23 (ESV)
3. God’s WORD FILLS my LIFE with TRUTH.
Genesis 1:14 (ESV)
He separates then fills.
Ephesians 3:14–19
Paul never prays they feel better, but he prays that they will know better, to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge. God expands our brain to know truth.
Q. What way might you change your prayer for a specific individual(s) according to how Paul prays for the Ephesians?
4: God’s WORD AFFIRMS my VALUE and WORTH.
Genesis 1:4 (ESV)
God’s word makes us good. The Gospel is right here in this verse. What made light good? God. The light did not do something to be good. God declared it good. God spoke and it was good because he said is it was good. This is how God operates in our life. It is not because we do less bad than our neighbors that we are good, it is when God declares we are good that we are good!
John 1:1(ESV) ;John 1:14 (ESV)
When we place our faith in Jesus we are good and declared righteous because God declared it. It is not our goodness it is God’s goodness
Romans 8:1-2
There is No condemnation for those in Christ Jesus!
Romans 3:23–24 (ESV)
JUSTIFIED: “JUST as if I’d NEVER SINNED.”
Pronounced free and clear of any condemnation!
Challenge: Memorize scripture and use it in the face of any temptation that comes your way this week!
