Why were you created?
If we don’t know the answer to this question, then it is impossible for us to do what God created us to do.
Q. At what point in your life did you start to ponder this question? Before you became a Christian, how might you have answered it?
He created us for His glory. The glory of God is every aspect of who God is and eery part of what God does.
Q. When you think of God’s glory, what comes to mind?
HE REVEALS HIS GLORY IN GOODNESS
Exodus 33:18-20
When Moses had said ‘show me your glory’, the Lord allowed His goodness to pass by. When God was asked to show his glory, God showed Moses one of his characteristics, his goodness.
Q. Have you ever specifically asked God to show you his glory and if so, what aspect of his glory had he shown you and how (goodness, mercy, faithfulness, power etc.)?
HE REVEALS HIS GLORY IN POWER
John 2:1-11
Jesus did not perform miracles until after He was baptized in the Holy Spirit. After this, he had performed a miracle at a wedding by turning water into wine. He manifested his glory by showing his power and then his disciples believed in Him.
WE WERE CREATED FOR HIS GLORY
God’s glory was manifested through Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve were brilliant and they would never die. They were created for his glory. But, Satan comes and deceives them and his glory departs from them.
Genesis 3:22-23
WE FALL SHORT OF HIS GLORY
Romans 3:23
We all for short of God’s glory. We all have sinned but God’s plan is to have his glory manifested through his creation – man. He manifests his characteristics and power through his people.
Q. What are some ways God manifests his glory through you? Can you share a specific example of how he has used you to show his glory to others and how did it affect that person(s) – (love, power, kindness etc.)?
JESUS’S LIFE WAS A MANIFESTATION OF GOD’S GLORY.
Jesus revealed God’s glory through his characteristics; love, kindness, power, healing and casting out demons everywhere He went. He paid the price on Calvary and raised up a new nation, the Church of Jesus Christ. He changes people.
2 Corinthians 5:17
We have to be transformed for his glory to be revealed through us. We have a responsibility to declare his glory through all the nations.
1 Chronicles 16:24
The glory belongs to him. We don’t come to church because of programs, we don’t worship the pastor or the singers. We are to declare his glory as a church and as an individual. We are not here to steal God’s glory. When Peter and John went to Gate Beautiful (Acts 3:1-10) and healed a lame man, the people tried to worship them, but they told them, it was in the name of Jesus Christ this man had been healed. In Acts 14:8-19 you can read of a story where the people worshiped men because Paul had healed a crippled man.
Q. It can be easy to steal God’s glory if we are not careful, as we have seen from some biblical examples. What personal examples can you share regarding a person trying to steal God’s glory? Have you ever tried to steal God’s glory and how?
OUR TESTIMONY BRINGS GOD GLORY
When we are born again, it is only the beginning. God wants to transform us into the image of His Son. Our testimony is important as it brings glory to God. When we manifest his glory to others, it brings glory to him. We must manifest his glory.
Galatians 5:22-23
We are nothing but He has chosen to reveal his glory through us no matter what our past. Living waters flow out of us and brings life and hope. We are chosen to bring him glory wherever we go, in our workplace, home, neighborhood etc. Where ever we go it is a great opportunity to do what God has creates us for.
CHALLENGE: Live a different life. Live for His gory that people might see Christ in us.
