Key Verse: Joshua

Everything moves. Even the mountains move.  The rivers, seas and the wind moves.  Our heart beat tells us our insides are moving.  There is no ‘stop’ for God.  God made things to move.  We are made to move.  We are the results of the moves we have made.

Q. What were some moves you had made that shaped who you have become?

Numbers 13:26–28 (ESV)

Caleb and Joshua believed when everyone else feared.

Numbers 13:30 (ESV)

It was not Josh that first stepped up to silence the negativity it was Caleb. He spoke up when everyone else was ready to quit.

It is ok to have the obstacle. The obstacle will train you for the opportunity. God’s Spirit shows up when we step out.  What Caleb believed for, he got.  What we believe for, we get.  God gives us what we need to get us where he wants.

FACT: Every OPPORTUNITY comes with OBSTACLES.

Q. What are some opportunities you have had that presented obstacles and how did you deal with the obstacles?

Joshua 14:12 (NKJV)

What Caleb had: COURAGE.

Three secrets to a Christian’s Courage:

1. God’s PROMISE, not MAN’S OPINIONS determines my FUTURE.

In Christ we have authority over the spirits of this world. We need to be familiar with God’s promises.

Q. What is a promise of God that has kept you going this week?

Joshua 14:9 (ESV); Joshua 14:8 (ESV)

He brought a good report and his brothers put fear in the hearts of the people.  Sometimes the greatest resistance comes from our closest relationships.  Caleb did what others rejected. Caleb took care of the giants, just as Jesus took care of our giants.  Jesus is our True and Better Caleb.

Q. When have you followed Man’s opinion over God’s promise?

John 4:34 (ESV)

We have His BLESSING:

Matthew 25:34 (ESV)

We who have faith in Christ are a blessed people.

We have His MIND:

1 Corinthians 2:16 (NLT)

When we come to Christ He gives us a new way to think.  The Bible was foreign to us until we came to Christ and then we understood.

We have THE SPIRIT:

John 14:16–17 (ESV)

What can stop us from accomplishing the purposes of Christ with the blessing, mind, and Spirit of Christ?

2. God’s STRENGTH can OVERRIDE my life’s LAME EXCUSES.

Joshua 14:10-11 (ESV)

He is still breathing, he is not done. That is true for us too!  The reason Caleb was 85 now is because he spent 40 years in the wilderness.  Six hundred thousand of his brothers caused Caleb to lose 4 decades.  But, God can keep us strong in spite of what people do against us.  God is never without the strength we need to accomplish his purposes.

What’s your 85?

Your “85” is whatever DETAIL you could use for an EXCUSE or a TESTIMONY.

Q. What have you used as either an excuse to give up or not give up?

Example: X amount of failed ‘somethings’ and you choose to either make that an excuse to quit or it becomes a testimony of how God gave you the strength to keep going.

Pastor Tim gave the example of S. Truett Cathy the Founder of Chick-Fil-A.  His partner died, his restaurant burns down , etc.  Chick-Fil-A was born. He did not let the excuses stop him from accomplishing his purpose. (Imagine no Christian Chicken?? – map)

Isaiah 40:29 (ESV)

Instead of looking for an EXCUSE, look for God’s EMPOWERMENT for why you can.

2 Chronicles 16:9 (NLT)

3. God’s “MAY BE” is FAR better than my “NEVER DID.”

Joshua 14:12 (ESV) this version states ‘It may be…’

Challenge: Look for opportunities this week to step out in faith so that you will see that God’s ‘May be’ is far better than if you ‘never did.’

William Carey – missionary

Christianity moved faster in the 1900’s because of William Carey.

Expect great things from God…attempt great things for God.

Jesus is our True Caleb.
