Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for bringing us together. We invite Your Holy Spirit into our hearts and minds. We ask that You open our eyes to Your truth, heal our hearts with Your love, and give us the courage to pursue wholeness in You. Teach us to lean not on our understanding but to seek You first in all things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

********************************

Mark 5:22-26 (ESV)

The result of the woman in this passage spending all that she had on physicians was that her condition grew worse, not better.

Leviticus 15:25-27 (ESV)

The accepted prescriptions of physicians from the first century did nothing to help this woman.

The prescriptions were so trusted in the first century that the Jews wrote them down (see Tractate Shabbat 110a).  It was their scientific prescription for a bleeding woman.

DOUBT THE SCIENCE.

Galatians 5:20 (ESV)

We need to open our eyes and ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us in the proper way to be healed.

Jesus wants to heal us.

Q. What does this woman’s experience teach us about the limitations of human solutions and the importance of seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance for true healing?

1. Healing Happens When I Push Through to the Truth.

 Mark 5:27-28 (ESV)

The woman in this passage had heard Jesus coming by.  She knew He could help her.  She pushed through.

Her faith is powerful and incomplete.  The normative path to healing is not garments and personal items of the men of God but faith in Jesus.  But she was doing the best she could with what she knew about Jesus.

Q. When have you had to push through doubts, fear, or discomfort to hold on to your faith or seek God’s help?

Practical Application:

Where might you be leaning too heavily on worldly advice or science without inviting God’s guidance? (Leader, ask if anyone would like to share.) This week, pause before making decisions and ask: “Holy Spirit, what would You have me do?

2. Healing Happens When I Feel it in My Body.

Mark 5:29 (ESV)

She felt the healing. Her body was registering that Jesus was healing her.  One of the best aspects of getting healthy is the feeling of improvement.

Pastor Tim shared a podcast he had done with Jordan Rubin, author of ‘The Maker’s Diet and the upcoming book The Biblio Diet.’   In this video, Jordan shares a testimony of how his healing from Crohn’s colitis and then cancer came from following a health plan based on the Bible.

Leader: Podcast is 27:58 minutes in when you playback the message attached to this guide.

Q. How do you view the connection between your physical health and your spiritual life?

Practical Application:

Encourage members to do one helpful thing this week for their physical health as an act of worship—whether it’s getting better sleep, eating healthier meals, increasing movement, or taking rest—and invite God into that practice.

3. Healing Happens When I’m Willing to Stand Out and Apart.

Mark 5:30 (ESV)

Jesus knows the difference between an authentic ‘touch’ and a regular ‘touch.’

Mark 5:31-32 (ESV)

There is a common touch of God’s truth and a special touch of God’s truth.

We should not take a casual examination of what God says but rather look at His lessons about how we should live and take them as they are—the living truth of Almighty God.

Mark 5:33-34 (ESV)

Q. What does it look like in your life to move beyond a casual connection with Jesus to a bold, faith-filled action that might set you apart from others?

Practical Application:

Identify one area in your life this week where God may be prompting you to take a bold step of faith, even if it means standing out.  Ask the Holy Spirit for the courage to act and trust that Jesus honors faith that reaches out to Him.

4. Healing Happens When We First Put Our Faith in God’s Word Over Any Other.

We need to put our faith in Christ first before listening to others, scientists, and those in the industry.

Matthew 6:33 (ESV)

Q. What are some voices or sources you tend to prioritize over God’s Word, and how can you shift your trust back to seeking Him first?

Practical Application:

This week, make it a point to begin each day by reading a passage of Scripture before turning to any outside sources—news, advice, or media. Write down one truth from God’s Word to meditate on and let it guide your decisions and perspective throughout the day.

Key Takeaways:

What are some takeaways you received from this message?

Closing Prayer:

Father God,

We thank You for Your healing touch—body, soul, and spirit. Help us to be people who push through the noise and confusion of the world to reach You. Give us the courage to stand out and trust Your truth over the world’s advice. Empower us to walk in wholeness and to reflect Your glory in all areas of our lives. We believe that healing happens when we come to You, in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
