Ice-breaker:
Q: What is a fruit you have eaten that looks soooo good and tasty but was not so good once you took a bite?
What is more troubling than fake fruit, are fake people, even worse, fake Christians. Fake people look the part but truly only care for themselves. Fake Christians look the part but there is nothing else that indicates their belief. They act one way and do another. Some have really been hurt by fake people and maybe even by a fake Christian which causes PAINFUL DESTRUCTION.
THREE WAYS TO IDENTIFY FAKE CHRISTIANS:
Fake Christians prioritize/preferential people.
Fake Christians act certain ways in order to be seen (put on a show).
Fake Christians don’t even realize they do it.
Q. What encounter may you have had with a fake person/Christian?
Q. What does the Last Days Church look like?
A #3: GENUINE
- GENUINE CHRISTIANS HAVE THE FRUIT CONSISTENT WITH THE ROOT
Matthew 25:35-36 (ESV)
Good deeds are the fruit and not the root of salvation. Deeds are not the basis for entrance into the kingdom but merely manifestations of God’s grace in our lives. Deeds are objective criteria for judgment because they are evidence of saving faith.
Good fruit doesn’t get salvation; good fruit comes from salvation. Jesus rescued us, not made us a polished version of ourselves, transformed us from the inside out. Jesus does the rescuing and transforming and from that we start loving and caring for people the way He does.
Q. What are some ways you have got stuck on the false thinking that your good works earns you salvation?
BAD ROOTS CANNOT PRODUCE GOOD FRUIT
Matthew 7:15-20 (ESV); John 15:1-2 (ESV)
Fruit comes from and is the result of the root. Too many Christians are disguising rotten fruit.
2. GENUINE CHRISTIANS BELIEVE EVERY PERSON IS SIGNIFICANT
Matthew 25:37-40 (ESV)
Jesus was born of a lowly virgin, from no-name Nazareth, son of a carpenter, not from a family of wealth. He came from the ‘least of these’ people/community. When we truly love Jesus, we truly love the ‘least of these’ people that are from truly marginalized communities and situations. Real Christians rub shoulders with people in these communities to direct them to Christ.
GENUINE LOVE FOR CHRIST IS GENUINELY LOVING PEOPLE
James 2:1-4 (ESV); Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV)
In Matthew 9 Jesus eats with tax collectors and sinners, in Luke 14 Jesus eats in the house of a prominent Pharisee. He is still the same Jesus with the lease of these and those that are not.
Q. How would your behavior change if you treated each person in your life as if he or she were Jesus?
3. GENUINE CHRISTIANS WILL GIVE WHATEVER IS REQUIRED
John 10:3-4 (ESV)
Sheep know the Shepherds voice. When we know and recognize the Shepherds voice, the easier it is to have Jesus transform us.
GENUINE TRANSFORMATION BY CHRIST CAUSES US TO BE GENEROUS IN EVERYTHING
Matthew 6:19-21 (ESV)
When we place our treasure in heaven, we are caring more for heavenly things than worldly things. God transforms us through this process and gives us a greater desire to want to give anything required so Christ may be known.
James 2:14-17 (ESV)
Jesus addresses the believer’s actions, not our prayers for the ‘least of these,’ not our ideas on what to do, not our faith that God will provide for us, he judges our actions. Our actions that reflect true belief.
Q. Which is easier for you, talking about your faith with others, or demonstrating love towards them and why?
Sermon in a Sentence:
A LAST DAYS CHURCH IS GENUINELY ROOTED IN CHRIST AND PRODUCES THE GENUINE FRUIT OF CHRIST
Challenge: Put your faith into action and begin storing more heavenly treasure.
