1 Corinthians 6:11 ESV

Paul writes to the Corinthians, a messed up church with messed up Christians.  The Corinthians, at some point, had many questions for Paul and sought answers on living lives as Christians.  Paul responds with this letter, it begins with Paul addressing divisions and disorder within the church.  After addressing that, he provides answers to each of their questions.  Demonstrating, the REAL cause of the issues is the division and disorder and that following a response to their questions won’t actually resolve their issues.

The resolutions to the issues they experienced would be resolved when their actions reflected to the magnitude of their salvation through faith in Jesus.  They needed to separate from the lives they were once accustomed and allow the Holy Spirit to make their lives reflect Jesus.

God works through the willing and equips those called to His purposes.

Q. Can you think of a time God used you because of your willingness?  How has God equipped you for the calling on your life?

Pastor Jim told us how he was messed up like the Corinthians, he was a Christian but didn’t know what it meant to be a Christian and the true impact of Jesus’ actions in his life.  He didn’t know the meaning and magnitude of Jesus’ actions: Jesus washed away Jim’s  sin (inside and out) and pronounced him blameless, without punishment because he took the punishment for his sin.

This scripture explains 3 variations of cleansing of sin: external, internal and publicly without punishment

1. I AM HERE BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WASHED.
Acts 22:16 ESV

Q. Have you been baptized and if not why?  After being baptized, did you feel or realize your sins were washed away?

External washing away of sins, as though out of sight from God!  It is similar to cleaning dirty hands as the dirt is not longer visible after washing.

Jesus removes the weight and filth of my sin.

(Scavenger Hunt #1 – BE THE FIRST LIFE GROUP LEADER TO SHOW UP AT TEAM NIGHT WITH A MEMBER OF YOUR GROUP WHO HAS NEVER BEEN TO TEAM NIGHT BEFORE AND INTRODUCE ME TO THEM)

Q. Can you share a time when you confessed your sin and felt a weight was lifted?

1 John 1:9 ESV

2. I AM HERE BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN FREED FROM GUILT.
We are free from the guilt and sin.  Our guilt resides in our head and heart, but we are internally cleansed of our sin.

Jesus removes the internal damages of my sin.

God just doesn’t do surface cleaning, he cleans the unseen areas of ourselves.

Q. How has God freed you internally (guilt, anxiety, fear depression etc.)?

2 Timothy 2:21 ESV

God uses the willing.  If anyone cleanses (those willing to cleanse themselves)..he will be a vessel (used by God).

3. I AM HERE BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN CLEARED OF ALL CHARGES.

Jesus removes the punishment of my sin and announces the righteous.

If we place our faith in Jesus and He cleanses us in these ways: externally, internally, and publicly without punishment, that should that change the way we walk, talk, care for others, etc.

This should that change the way we boast about His great work.
This is something that should bring us joy, gratefulness, humbleness, and eagerness to share with others….not a mundane spirit or mundane life.

Q. How has this changed you?  Is there an area of your life that reflects God’s great cleansing work that’s taken place?

MAKE TIME FOR PRAYER AND FELLOWSHIP.
