Key Verse: Proverbs 3

Ice breaker:

Q. If you had to choose only one restaurant to eat at for the rest of your life, what would that be and why?

Trust leads to commitment.  Where we put our trust is where we commit.  Knowing what to trust and how to trust is vital.

When trusting comes to our finances, it can be difficult.

We can trust the advice given to us in the Bible, and we need to apply what God tells us to do with our money.

Our actions are a sign of our commitment and of being all in.

Q.  Have you ever read something in the Bible but were hesitant/reluctant to fully apply it to your life?

What should we put our trust in?

1.   TRUST in God’s TEACHING

The wisdom of Solomon is the wisdom imparted to him by God. It is God’s wisdom.

Proverbs 2:6 ESV

Proverbs 3:1-2 ESV

The first two verses of Proverbs 3 speak of a long and peaceful life. At the end of our life, none of us wants to look back and say, “Well, I wasted the time I had.”

We yearn for the life that this proverb describes.   The key to achieving that contentment is found in following God’s commandments. God has commanded that we spend our time wisely.

Q. Can you share instances or ways in which you have experienced the unwavering love of God in your life?

2. TRUST  in God’s LOVE

Proverbs 3:3-4 ESV

Despite our hurts and mistrusts, whether in the past or currently, God remains trustworthy.

He pursues us to cleanse us and create in us a new heart through His Spirit. There is healing in that!

He asks us to bind His steadfast love and faithfulness to our hearts. As we submit to His love, He enables us to trust Him more and more. His love changes us.

Q. Reflecting on the idea that God’s love changes us, how have you noticed a transformation in yourself as you’ve grown in trust and submission to His love, especially during tough times?

3.   TRUST  in God’s WAYS

Proverbs 3:5-8 ESV

Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV

God’s ways are far above our ways. He asks us to be fully committed to Him.

We don’t want “pseudo” faith, He asks for us to surrender every area of our life.

It’s easy to be tempted away from God when our SELF-interest takes more importance than His ways.

He makes a way for us, and it is the BEST way.

Q. In what ways have you trusted God with finances and seen His promises prevail?

4. TRUST in God’s PROSPEROUS Plan for US

God is not a Genie in a bottle, where you just pray and receive oodles of goodies. We are not endorsing a prosperity Gospel here.

Proverbs 3:9-10 ESV

We worship the Lord with Hymns, songs, and prayers, but, also, with the giving of the first and the best of our material income.

Why is this a command of God? What does it serve to accomplish?

First, the giving of the first fruits is an expression of true worship and devotion.  That is because it is costly.

2 Samuel 24:24 ESV

Second, the giving of the first fruits is an acknowledgment of the fact that all we have belongs to the Lord and all we have has been graciously given to us by HIM.

Exodus 20:1-3 ESV

Third is that giving of the first of the fruits is a testimony that the Lord holds first place in our lives and everything else is in submission to HIM.

1 Samuel 2:30 ESV

And finally, His faithful promise in scripture is that those who honor the Lord shall be honored by the Lord.

Christians may debate tithing, but what is not up for debate is Jesus’ call in Matthew 19:16-30 for all his followers to go above and beyond the norms to financially sacrifice for others.

Giving 10% to the local church where you worship is an excellent starting point with a strong biblical precedent.

Q. How does giving the first fruits of our material income serve as an expression of true worship and devotion to God, and why is it considered costly?

Sermon in a sentence:

TRUSTING The Lord with Finances, Changes Contributions to COMMITMENT. It LEADS me to keep His commands, TRUSTING His Ways, and HONORING Him with gratitude for ALL of my POSSESSIONS.

Challenge: Identify one area of your life where you struggle to fully trust God—this could be related to finances, decisions about the future, relationships, or personal challenges. Make a conscious effort to surrender this area to God daily, seeking His guidance and wisdom through prayer and reflection.
