It’s All About the Kiss
Relying on Faith and not Sight
We tend to gravitate toward things we relate to. For example you may listen to depressing songs after a break-up.
Faith is:
The opposite of hope is dismay, hopelessness and discouragement. We may feel discouragement because perhaps our faith has been rocked. We look at the circumstances and feel hopeless.
WE GET FEELINGS OF DISCOURAGEMENT AND HOPELESSNESS WHEN WE RELY ON WHAT WE SEE IN LIFE.
Q. What circumstances are making you feel hopeless?
We need to take a spiritual eye test.
1. DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT EXPECTATION IN FOCUS?
Elijah prays and sends his servant out but the servant comes back and did not see anything. Sometimes God answers quickly and we automatically assume we should see something now. Elijah prayed 7 different times but he had the right expectation because he knew there were times when God did answer his prayers right away and times when he did not.
When we don’t see anything, God is always up to something.
Since the very first day, God heard his prayer. God orchestrated things in our lives even when we don’t see anything. Josh gave the example of how his mom prayed for him for 12 years before he gave his life to Christ.
Q. What are some prayers you have prayed or others have prayed and it took years before they were answered? How was God orchestrating the answer during that time?
What we see as insignificant, God sees as significant.
There was a drought there for 3 and half years and his servant saw only a cloud in the sky the size of his hand.
Q. What circumstances have made you feel insignificant and how did God use you in them to advance his Kingdom?
2. ARE YOU FOCUSING TOO MUCH ON YOUR CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES?
He is afraid. He has seen God answer prayers and now he is afraid. He became borderline suicidal. How does someone get this way after God uses them? The more we dwell in our circumstance, the more we start to take matters into our own hands and try to correct the situation ourselves, or we demand that others correct the situation. If we had the strength to get out of our own situation, then we would not be in it in the first place.
Q. Have you found yourself in a situation where you focused too much on the circumstances and took matters into your own hands? What was the result?
We don’t have the strength to change our circumstances but God does.
3. ARE YOU FOCUSED ON WHAT YOU HAVE OR WHAT YOU HAVE IN JESUS?
Elisha was Elijah’s predecessor. Kiss in Hebrew symbolized the abandonment of God for an idol but here it shows Elisha is abandoning all to follow God. We tend to rely on things and not rely on God.
Q. What things have you relied on or currently relying instead of relying on God on and what are the dangers in making these things idols?
Jesus abandoned heaven to come and save us!
