Key Verse: Job 14
We don’t always understand God’s ways, but His ways are the best ways.
People have been crying out this question though all the ages.
Job 14:14
Job and suffered tremendously. God had bragged about Job and the Devil said it was because of what God had given him so God lifted his hand off of Job and told Satan he cannot take his life. Satan does not have the power to take life. Job would have rather died because his suffering was so great.
Q. What experience in your life (or one you have witnessed) that was a Job like experience?
When a man dies will he live again?
Some people propagate reincarnation, others say it is the end, and some pastors don’t even believe in eternal life. We cannot live by man’s opinion or build a life on what man says. Jesus will never fail us nor let us down. We must build our lives on the word of God.
Many bow the knee to others opinions but it is time we stop this nonsense and focus on the Author and Finisher of our Faith.
Q. Before you were saved, what opinions about death did you have and why?
God’s word never changes. The Bible is the written word and Jesus is the living word and they always harmonize. Jesus tells us nothing but the Truth. (John 14:6); (1 Peter 1:25). God’s word is eternal and everlasting and when we apply the word of God to our lives, we are blessed. The word of God is a solid foundation (Matthew 7:24-27).
The Devil is the Father of Lies
The devil is the author of sin. He is a liar from the beginning. He is the father of lies and father of death. God is the giver of life. Adam and Eve were to live forever but then they disobeyed God and sin and death came into the world. They were put out of the Garden and everyone born after that is subject to death – physical and spiritual. (Romans 6:23)
Q. What lies from the devil had you believed about yourself, about someone else?
We all have inherited a sinful nature. Whether we like it or not, we are sinners. Our sin has come between us and God, facing a spiritual death, then facing a physical death but God (John 3:16). When Jesus walked on the earth He came to give life abundantly. He is King and where the King is, there is His Kingdom.
Death brings heartache and sorrow but those that trust in Him will live forever. The most important thing anyone can do is bow the knee to Jesus and admit He is King. Now man can be reconciled to God through the death, burial and resurrection of His Son. We don’t have to go through a priest, reverened, pastor or any other religious leader, we come just as we are.
The answer to Job’s question ‘if a man dies will he live again?”
1 Corinthians 15:20-26
Everyone is going to life forever but one is life and one is death. Death is separation from God and those who reject Jesus as Lord and Savior will be separated from God for all eternity. But those who put their faith in God will live eternally in the place He has prepared for us who love Him. Jesus died and rose again in the same body but now it is immortal and incorruptible. For us in Christ we will also have immortal and incorruptible bodies.
Q. How does knowing this help change the way you think about your current situation?
Death is the last enemy. When Jesus returns He will bring back the spirit and souls of those believers that have already died. Those of us alive will change in the twinkling of an eye and we will be caught up together. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
