This challenge is two-fold as it will help leaders understand and navigate the apprenticeship process and it will encourage members to step out in faith knowing that they will have concrete tools to guide them as they lead their group.

Key Verse: Acts 2
Icebreaker Question:
What are you looking forward to in the new year?
Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing us together today. We ask for Your presence and guidance as we study Your Word and explore the commitments we can make for spiritual growth. Open our hearts and minds, and help us to hear and respond to Your voice. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Healthy things grow, multiply, and bless.
This message is about getting Spiritually healthy. It is aimed at helping you find health in your spirit.
1 Thessalonians 23-24 (ESV)
Paul’s prayer for these people he loved, who he had helped find faith in Christ, is that now God would work in them and would not stop helping them to become complete in Spirit, Soul, and Body.
God desires to sanctify you from the inside out, cleanse you, purify you, and bring you to holiness.
This New Year’s Question for Everyone At Waters Church South Coast:
What Does It Look Like For Each of Us To Grow In Our Faith For 2025?
*****
Our Plan this year is to:
1. Be Committed to GROW in the WORD of God
Scriptures: Acts 2:42 (ESV), John 14:21 (ESV)
If you keep Christ’s commandments, you will experience His love, and He will reveal Himself to you.
The more that gets revealed to you, the more you can keep, and the more you keep, the more you experience his love, and He reveals it.
If you want to grow spiritually, start by loving God, obeying Him, receiving His love, and letting Him reveal new things to you daily.
When you walk in that obedience, you learn God’s word to know the God of the word.
Q. How has spending time in God’s Word impacted your life, and what steps will you take to ensure you spend time in God’s Word from now on?
Practical Application:
Set aside 15 minutes each day to read and reflect on Scripture this week. Consider starting with the Gospel of John or a Bible reading plan.
2. Be Committed to PRAYING Daily
Scriptures: Acts 2:42 (ESV)
Followers of Jesus devoted themselves to prayer. They prayed about everything; they prayed through the day; they prayed at church, at home, individually, and corporately.
Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV), 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV)
John 15:7 (ESV)
When you develop a prayer life, you will be amazed at how the Kingdom starts to flow toward you. Spiritually healthy people develop a constant conversation with God.
Q. What obstacles keep you from praying consistently, and how can you overcome them?
Practical Application:
Set a reminder to pray each morning and evening this week. Start with a simple format: praise, confess, thank, and ask.
3. Be Committed to CONNECTING to The CHURCH
Scriptures: Acts 2:44-45 (ESV), Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)
These followers of Christ had something in common: they were forgiven by God. They had a common goal.
The word fellowship in Greek means to have something in common.
As Christians, we are connected with common grace, a common goal, and a common God.
Q. Why is connecting with other believers essential for your spiritual growth?
Practical Application:
This week, invite someone to church with you, or approach someone you know is not in a Life Group and help them find one.
4. Be Committed to SHARING With OTHERS
Scriptures: Acts 2:46-47 (ESV)
You must be committed to sharing what you have with others.
The early Church was generous, sharing what it had with each other. Although they were not forced to do so, they wanted to.
1 Peter 4:10 (ESV), 1 Peter 3:15 (ESV)
In God’s economy, the more you learn to give away your goods, gifts, and the Gospel, the stronger you will be in Christ.
You cannot outgive God.
Q. Who has God placed in your life with whom you can share His love and gifts this week?
Practical Application:
Find one way to serve or encourage someone this week. It could be through a kind word, an act of service, or sharing your testimony.
Sermon in a Sentence:
The Church Needs More SPIRITUALLY FIT People This New Year To Say: I’m Committed To GROW In My Love for JESUS and HIS WORD, I’m Committed To PRAY Daily Because Of Who I Am, I’m Committed To Get CONNECTED to Other CHRISTIANS and SHARE God’s Gifts with THEM.
Key Takeaways
- Spiritual growth starts with intentional commitment to God’s Word, prayer, connection, and sharing.
- Healthy things grow, and as we grow spiritually, we reflect Christ more clearly to the world around us.
- God faithfully sanctifies and guides us as we step into His plans for our lives.
Scripture for Meditation:
“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (ESV)
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for the truth in Your Word and for the commitments we’ve discussed. As we go into this week, help us live out these principles, grow in our faith, and be a blessing to others. Keep our hearts set on You and our eyes fixed on Jesus. In His name, Amen.
