Born is the King | Part 4 “Go Tell It On The Mountain” – Woonsocket Guide

Key Verse: Luke 2:8 – 20 ESV

This song is about sharing someone else; it’s about telling the good news of someone else to someone else.  It is about sharing a story/message.  It is bout their presence, promise, holiness, and majesty.  We do this in our lives all the time, about ourselves and each other.  We had no part in their greatness, but feel good to witness their greatness.

Q. Can you describe an experience where you shared  a good story or message about that you could not wait to tell someone else? Are you more hesitant about telling the Good News of Christ than a good story about a friend or yourself and why (compare to your first hearing it to currently where you are in your walk)?

WHEN YOU HEAR GOOD NEWS YOU CAN’T SIT STILL, YOU CAN’T BE SILENT

3 Things about the Good News

1. GOOD NEWS BREAKS THE GRIP OF FEAR.

Luke 2:8-9 ESV and NLT

The shepherds were filled with fear.  They were terrified!

Luke 2:15-16 ESV

They hurried to see what the angels were talking about; what God was showing them.  Then, they were not afraid.

1 John 4:18 ESV

Perfect love casts out fear.  Since fears has to do with punishment,  if we fear we have not been perfected in love.  Love is in scriptures more than 650 times!  When good news is received, fear is gone.

Q. What are some fears that have been relieved for you after you had received the Good News of Jesus?

2. GOOD NEWS BRINGS THE PARTY.

We party when there is good news.

Luke 2:13-14 ESV

After they witnessed the Good News, the angels celebrated by glorifying and praising God.

Luke 2:20 ESV

After the shepherds heard and witnessed the Good News, they too celebrated by glorifying and praising God.

Q. Other than becoming a believer, what are some of the most memorable things you have ever celebrated and why was it important for you to celebrate it?

3. GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHANGES LIVES.

GOOD NEWS TURNS INTO THE BEST NEWS WHEN YOU REALIZE THE WORST NEWS.

The worst news is that we are imperfect and we are sinners.  The Good news turned to best news is that Jesus accepts us the way we are, forgives us and washes us clean of sin.

Romans 5:11 ESV

Q. What were your first thoughts when you realized that Jesus accepted you the way you were, forgave you and washed you clean of sin?  Now that you know the Good News, how are you leveraging that Good News when fear creeps in?

While shepherds kept their watch, O’er silent flocks by night, Behold throughout the heavens There shone a holy light

Chorus: Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere, go tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ was born.

The shepherds feared and trembled When lo! above the earth Rang out the angel chorus That hailed our Saviour’s birth

Chorus

Down in a lowly manger The humble Christ was born; And God sent our salvation That blessed Christmas morn

Chorus

When I was a seeker I sought both night and day I sought the Lord to help me And He showed me the way.

Chorus

He made me a watchman Upon the city wall And if I am a Christian I am the least of all

GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN OVER THE HILLS AND EVERYWHERE, GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN THAT JESUS CHRIST IS BORN!

GO TELL IT!
