First Wednesday Re-Cap | “Will We Be Galileans?”

First Wednesday Re-Cap, August 28, 2019

Key Verse: Acts 1
We are hopeless if Jesus is still dead. However, His death, burial, and resurrection was undisputed and is still undisputed to this day. He is Alive!
Acts 1:8 ESV “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be (D)my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and (Samaria, and (o the end of the earth.”
This scripture has come true.  We are worshipping Jesus and following Him.  We have the power of the Holy Spirit so we can do exactly what Jesus wants us to do.
We are: Going international (Guatemala).  We are going to Fall River.  We are going to Florida.  We are moving Saturday nights to Thursday nights.
There has to be movement.  Movement is what this is all about.  If we don’t move, we will miss God.  Christianity is a movement.  We stop moving, we are dead.  A church that is moving is filled with the Holy Spirit.  We are made to move.
Matthew 28:19 ESV GO therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
Luke 9:58 ESV And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
Jesus was constantly moving.  He didn’t let critics stop Him.  Great movers of our country’s history were criticized. Are we afraid of going because it will cost us?
GOspel
GOd
We have had failures but we won’t let one failure stop what we succeed at.  We can only learn from our failures.  Success is a stifling place to learn.  We have to take risks for the Gospel.  We move forward in spite of what we fail at.  We open new campuses so that people will hear the Gospel because people need to go to heaven, not hell.  Fall River is the least biblically minded city. Guatemala is one of the most dangerous countries in the world.  The Bible says ‘do not fear’ 365 times.  We are a royal priesthood:
1 Peter 2:9 ESV But you are )a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Acts 1:6-8 ESV So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
The conversation goes from ‘Lord will you’  to Jesus saying back to them “you will”…
Acts 10:38 ESV how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
Jesus came as a man, but after He was baptized He received the Holy Spirit.  We need the Holy Spirit.
1. THE HOLY SPIRIT ROOTS US IN THE EFFECT JESUS HAS ON US.
“You will be my witnesses.”
Talk about what He has done.
5 MARKS THAT ONLY THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN PRODUCE:
1.  The elevation of esteem in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Saviour.
2. Opposition to the reign of Satan and turning from sin (1 John 1:5-6).
3. An increased interest in God’s word.
4. The Spirit enlightens us with a sound grasp of true doctrine.
5. The mark of love for people.
2. THE HOLY SPIRIT MOVES US TO CARE FOR OUR CITY AND REGION.
In Jerusalem and all Judea
3. THE HOLY SPIRIT MOVES BEYOND OUR REGION AND OUR WORLD.
WILL WE BE GALILEANS?
