Rhythms Over Results
2 Kings 13:14-19
As humans we are about results, but we are made for rhythms.
Results are not fair. It is not fair to compare. We end up chasing someone else’s results the what we should be doing is celebrating what God has done for us.
“It’s one thing to say I’m the type of person who wants this. It’s something very different to say I’m the type of person who IS this.” – James Clear author of Atomic Habits
We should learn to pattern our life by rhythms. We need to develop better rhythms. Drop the results idol and look for rhythms.
When we need to lose weight, we should not focus on the amount needed to lose, but the eating habits we make. When we focus on the rhythm the results take care of themselves.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6)
Rhythm Killers:
- Nostalgia
Always looking back when God asks us to move forward.
Ecclesiastes 7:10; Luke 9:62
2. Feelings
We constantly feel like not doing the thing that will help us. That’s the sin nature. It undermines every good thing God wants to do in us and for us.
3. Business
We get so caught up in doing work that is not God’s work, it sucks us up. We need to take a Sabbath – a day of rest.
4. Compromise
We start to play games with the world. ‘Is it okay if live with my boyfriend/girlfriend if I’m not sleeping with him/her”?
