Key Verse: John 1:1-5
We had the best one week offering in our history. We are 60 percent of where we need for retrofitting Tiverton location!
At Christmas we take the little baby Jesus and put him everywhere. Hallmark cards, Christmas decor, our mantels are depictions of the moment of his birth. This year, lets take a look at the Man, Lord, and Savior that Baby became. He healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons, did wonders, and then was put on the cross unjustly, died and rose 3 days later. Then He ascended to the right hand of God. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords and is coming back again for His Church.
Ice-breaker:
Q. What traditionally did you do to celebrate Christmas as a child? Did you celebrate Jesus the baby or Jesus the King of Kings?
Key Verse: John 1:1-5
The Gospel of John is unique as it is talking about Jesus from a cosmic perspective. Matthew Mark, and Luke’s Gospels are a picture of Jesus from the earth up and John’s is the picture of Jesus from heaven down. People should start reading the Bible with the Gospel of John. John is also unique from the other disciples. He had a backstage pass to all the great moments of Jesus’s life. He had the closest contact with Jesus. John was His closest intimate disciple.
John 1:14 ESV
Cosmic beginnings with an intimate transmission to the closeness that John had with Jesus.
John teaches us about the COSMIC CHRIST who COMES CLOSE to US.
The God of the universe came close to us. Some people run from God afraid he is only going to judge them, some hide because they think he is always angry with them, some avoid him because they think he is out to get them. But John wants us to know that the God of the universe who invented the solar system, galaxies and made us, humbled himself, became a baby, and got close to us because he loves us.
1. Jesus is the great RE-STARTER.
John 1:1
Genesis is the first book that opens with ‘In the beginning… ‘ John is totally plagiarizing Genesis 1:1 to tell us something about who Jesus is. In the beginning God created everything including man and woman and put them in the Garden of Eden to have peace and harmony forever, but then things went badly. This is why we have sin and pain that destroys human life. Sin brings death and separation. Our disobedience of God in the Garden is the reason for our pain. We need to be born again. We need Jesus. What Jesus came to do was give us a fresh start.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
Even as Christians we can have a fresh start. He forgives us when we confess our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9).
Q. Where in your life right now could you use a fresh start?
2. Jesus is the great COMMUNICATOR.
John 1:1 (ESV)
Word: a word is a form of communication. That is what Jesus is. Gods communication to us. He wants to talk to us. He wants us to talk to him daily and he also wants to talk to us daily.
John 15:7-8 (ESV)
When His word abides in us, our are hearts are changed to want what He wants and he gives us what He wants to give us.
Q. How often do you spend time talking to God and allowing him to speak to you?
FORGIVENESS is found in His Word:
Romans 8:1 (ESV)
Q. Why is it difficult sometimes to accept forgiveness?
STRENGTH is found in His Word:
Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
All over the Bible we are told not to fear because God wants us to find strength in His word.
Q. Where do you look for strength other than God’s Word and why do we tend look elsewhere for strength when we need it?
FAITH is found in His Word:
Romans 10:17 (ESV)
If we want to grow in faith we must read and hear the Scriptures.
PEACE is found in His Word:
He says in John 14:27: ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you’.
Q. Where do you lack in faith and/or peace?
CLEANSING is found in His Word:
Ephesians 5:25–26 (NLT)
HEALING is found in His Word:
Psalm 107:20 (ESV)
Q. In what ways have you experienced healing in God’s Word?
3. Jesus is the great COORDINATOR.
John 1:1 (ESV)
The Word (Logos) is a very powerful Word. There is an order to the universe, even non-believers believe that. It is also logical. Jesus makes life make sense. God orders the universe. Biology is the talk about life. Jesus is the Logos, the Coordinator
of our life.
Q. How does knowing this, change your perception of things that are happening in your life?
Romans 8:28 (ESV)
4. Jesus is the great PRODUCER.
John 1:3 (ESV)
Everything came from Jesus, the planets, the sun, He was the One with God in the beginning. All we see is made through Jesus. He is the producer of our lives! He made us! He is the One behind the scenes. Those who don’t know Him cannot make sense of their lives.
Psalm 139:13–14 (ESV); Acts 17:25 (ESV); Colossians 1:16 (ESV)
Q. How did your life start to make sense when you became a Christian?
My LIFE is God’s IDEA, moves forward by God’s DESIGN and is intended for God’s GLORY.
5. Jesus is the great ILLUMINATOR.
John 1:4-5 (ESV)
John 3:19–21 (ESV)
“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” – C.S. Lewis
All humanity is divided by Jesus Christ, all those who hate and reject Him, and those who love and accept him Him. Why? Because He is the Light and exposes us and shows us we are sinners.
If I want a NEW START to life with PURPOSE, I must come into HIS LIGHT, have my sins forgiven, and my life will be DIRECTED in the GUIDING LIGHT of God.
CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE ONE
