Key Verse: James 1:19-27 (ESV)
Non-Believers have a message to hear. Believers have a message to deliver!
1. Our message is THE GOSPEL.
The Good News (Evangelio) means evangelism. Evangelism is the zealous spread of a cause. The cause being Christianity, what Christ has done for all of us.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (ESV)
The Gospel is what Christ did for us. We have hope in the Lord. We will have ups and downs but we have Christ. Those who don’t have hope, don’t have a relationship with a living God.
We have a message, the Gospel but we tend to worry more about our physical death more than the death of our soul. For example, we would tell someone not to drink poison so they would not die of a physical death, but we need to also care about their spiritual death.
Q. Why is it more difficult to care for one’s spiritual condition as opposed to one’s physical condition?
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (ESV)
We are living in a blip, a small moment in comparison to eternity. Everything we do matters not just for our eternity but for others we come in contact with. What we do with the time we are given matters. We often have things chasing us, we are under attack like the boy in the movie but he had a message to carry that would save others lives and so do we. As believers we need to be outward focused.
“It ain’t the parts of the Bible that I can’t understand that bother me, it’s the parts I do understand.” – Mark Twain
Jesus said follow my commands (John 14:15) . If we love Him, we will follow His commands. We are to humbly walk with God, care for orphans and widows, seek first Gods kingdom, we are not to be conformed to this world, we are to speak the truth, do all things without grumbling and be content with what we have.
Q. In light of these commands and the message we have to carry to others, where do you fall short?
Matthew 38:19-20 (ESV)
The Gospel is all of these things we should be doing on a constant basis, being a doers not just hearers. It is not always easy. If you don’t know what we believe no one else will either.
2.The message SHOULD SPREAD.
The Gospel is being zealous in evangelizing others.
When we know what we believe and why, others will believe it too.
Q. What do you find difficult when sharing the Gospel with others?
Acts 8:34-35 (ESV)
Here Pau is talking about telling the Good News through scriptures. Paul was a doer, not just a hearer. Our testimony is through, baptism, living out God’s commands. We are to live it not just talk it. We live in a world with lots of lip service. We are to care for others ahead of ourselves.
3. PERSEVERANCE is difficult.
We will have a chance to quit or be complacent. No one has ever been saved by someone else’s complacency. Look at the lives of Jospeh, Daniel, and Paul. They were not complacent, even though they each had their own struggles, they persevered.
Acts 20:24 (ESV)
A race is hard. We are in a race. We cannot grow weary. We suffer for righteousness sake. We suffer with hope. It is our job to tell the world that there is Hope through the redemptive work of Christ on the cross.
Q. What things in life cause you to be complacent and why?
Q. When have you been complacent regarding the Gospel?
4. The message is THE GOSPEL and the gospel is COMPLETE.
John 19:30 (ESV)
The impossible part is over. Jesus did it already we just need to be Zealous Doers of the Gospel, and deliver the Message.
Last week we were challenged to serve a neighbor, friend or co-worker, discuss how you serving them might have reflected spreading the Gospel through action.
