LEADER: PLEASE NOT EACH POINT HAS A PRACTICAL APPLICATION TO SHARE WITH YOUR GROUP AND 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS AT THE END OF THE STUDY.
Key Verse: John 16:7 (NKJV)
Ice Breaker:
Q. If you could go back in time and witness any miracle or event from the Bible in person, which one would you choose and why?
Opening Prayer:
“Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for this time together. We welcome Your presence in this meeting and invite the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us as we learn more about Him. Help us to grow in faith, spiritual maturity, and understanding. May we be open to the truth and power that the Holy Spirit brings to our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
7 Things About the Holy Spirit.
1. He is God
Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is fully God and works in perfect unity with the Father and Son. We serve one God in three persons.
Q. What does knowing that the Holy Spirit is fully God mean to you?
Practical Application: Reflect on how you acknowledge the Holy Spirit’s divinity daily. Make a habit of praying to the Holy Spirit for guidance and wisdom.
2. He is a Giver
1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts to build up the church and advance God’s kingdom. He equips each believer.
We are to use the gifts He gives us to the glory of the Lord.
(Leader, choose one of the following questions):
Q. What spiritual gift do you feel the Holy Spirit has given you? How can you use it to serve others?
Or
Q. Can you share how God used someone’s spiritual gift to bless or impact your life?
Practical Application: Identify your spiritual gift(s) and find a way to use them this week—whether serving in the church, encouraging someone, or sharing your faith.
3. He is a Creator
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit creates new life in us. When we surrender to Christ, the Holy Spirit renews and transforms us from the inside out.
Q. Can you share a personal story or testimony of how the Holy Spirit transformed your life or the life of someone you know?
Practical Application: Spend time in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal areas of your life that need transformation. Surrender these areas to Him.
4. He is the Author of the Bible
2 Peter 1:21 (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit inspired the Scriptures, even though men wrote it.
Q. Can you share a time when reading a passage of Scripture brought you new insight or encouragement through the guidance of the Holy Spirit?
Practical Application: Choose one passage of Scripture this week to meditate on and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal its meaning to you.
5. He is Presented as a Dove, Fire, and Wind
Matthew 3:16 (Dove), Acts 2:3 (Fire), John 3:8 (Wind)
Dove: Symbolizes peace and gentleness.
Fire: Symbolizes zeal and purification.
Wind: Symbolizes the unseen, powerful movement of the Spirit.
Q. Which symbol of the Holy Spirit resonates most with you and why?
Practical Application: Meditate on which aspect of the Holy Spirit you need more of in your life—peace, power, or purification. Pray specifically for that.
6. He is the Church’s Power
Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
God gives every believer power, the Holy Spirit.
We are challenged every day. The Devil tempts us, and in our own power, we are weak; we need the Holy Spirit.
Q. When have you felt the Holy Spirit give you power or courage to do something you couldn’t do on your own (could be witnessing to someone or taking a stand for your faith, etc.)?
Practical Application: Step out in faith this week—sharing your testimony, praying for someone, or doing something outside your comfort zone.
7. He Was Here from the Beginning
Genesis 1:2 (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit was present at creation, bringing order and life. He continues to bring order to the chaos in our lives and direct our steps.
The Holy Spirit no longer comes upon the believer; He is in the believer.
Q. Where do you need the Holy Spirit to bring order and direction today?
Practical Application: Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas of chaos in your life. Trust Him to guide you toward peace and clarity.
Key Takeaways
- The Holy Spirit is a Personal Guide and Helper: He is not just a power or force, but God Himself, who lives within us, guides us, and empowers us for daily living and ministry (John 16:7; Matthew 28:19-20).
- The Holy Spirit Equips and Empowers Believers: He gives spiritual gifts for the benefit of the church, and He provides the power needed to be effective witnesses of Jesus Christ in the world (1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Acts 1:8).
- The Holy Spirit Brings Transformation: From creation to the new life we have in Christ, the Holy Spirit brings order, renewal, and transformation, making us new creations in Christ (Genesis 1:2; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
Weekly Challenge:
Please choose one of the points discussed and commit to putting it into practice this week. For example, use your spiritual gifts to serve or spend extra time in Scripture meditation, asking the Holy Spirit for guidance.
Closing Prayer:
“Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to be our Helper, Comforter, and Guide. We ask for a deeper understanding of His presence and power in our lives. May we walk in step with the Spirit, using the gifts You have given us to serve and glorify You. Empower us to be bold witnesses for Christ, filled with peace, passion, and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
