30 Aug The Heart of a Leader
THIS BLOG WAS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR. SOME OF THE NUMBERS HAVE CHANGED BUT THE CONTENT REMAINS.
As I look back at the past 5 years I am amazed at where God has taken us and continues to take us as a church and in small groups. We started with only a handful of leaders who were given a vision by the Pastors of what small groups should look like. Over the years, were molded and shaped as God weeded and formed what we now have. Our Small Groups are 70 strong, with 104 leaders. There are currently 475 active participants!
When first asked to coordinate small groups, I said ‘sure’ without really knowing the process or what exactly it meant to be a Small Group Coordinator. The only thing I thought of at that moment was that I wanted to do the best I could, to do the best what exactly?? Little did I know how exhilarating this role would be. How much I have learned about myself and others and how much I love doing what I do! The people I have met, the places I have been and most importantly all of you, who right along with me, have kept the momentum and forged through!
What lies ahead for us is an exciting path where we can explore opportunities, bless our communities, build strong lasting relationships with each other while growing in faith. What we are given is the chance to do this all across New England! Our vision is clear; to love and care for people, build friendships, meet each other’s needs and shine the light of Jesus so that the world may know Him!
My prayer is that we continue to put our all into small group leadership and to continue to apprentice strong leaders who are willing to put their hands to the plow and move forward with us! I hope that you are all just as excited as I am to be on this journey, which is turning out to be pretty amazing and will only become more so!
So, bottom line, the heart of a leader is to be willing and available; to be compassionate and passionate about Jesus and people. Those new to leadership or just signing on as an apprentice, if your answer is just ‘sure’, then you are well on your way:)
