NOTE:
Two opportunities to pray:
Leaders only: Please be available at the end of services to pray for those who come forward. If you are not actively serving during the service you are attending, make it a priority to head to the front when the invitation is given. Your presence matters!
North Attleboro Leaders and members: If you or any member of your group who currently serves is available, there is an opportunity to meet for prayer in the conference room off the break room during the second and third services. Please see Doug and Joanie White or Felix Shyllon if you would like to be a part of that ministry.
Please note: if you have a member who is not currently serving and would like to be part of the prayer during the service team, please have them take the appropriate steps to become a serve team member.
NORTH ATTLEBORO
Prayer at the Altar – AFTER SERVICES
If possible, please make an effort to be at the altar after this service to pray for others.
Your presence makes a difference—thank you for serving!
**Please read all scripture in the ESV, unless otherwise noted.**
**The Leader prompts help you, as the leader, move the conversation along.**
Key Verse: Hebrews 11
Fun Icebreaker:
If everyday tasks were Olympic events, which one would you win a gold medal in and why?
Opening Prayer:
Father, thank You that You work through imperfect people. As we study Your Word, help us recognize where You are calling us to act in faith. Give us courage to obey, depend on Your strength, and move forward even when we feel inadequate. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Hebrews 11:32 ESV
The six people mentioned in the passage we just read knew how to fight.
Faith isn’t passive DEPENDENCE on God; it’s ACTIVE PARTICIPATION in what God calls us to do.
We have to fight; we cannot just ‘let go and let God’.
- Faith FIGHTS despite our FLAWS.
Hebrews 11:32–33 ESV
The men listed in Hebrews 11:32 had many flaws, and they are on the list to give real people hope.
What is your FLAW?
- FEARFUL INSECURITY – Gideon and Barak
(Who am I?)
B. FLESHLY IMPULSES – David and Samson
(Cannot control urges)
C. FAMILY DYSFUNCTION – David and Jephthah
These flaws cannot undo your faith, but they can stop you from fighting.
Galatians 5:17 ESV
We wrestle with saying the wrong things, looking at the wrong things, chasing the wrong things, and holding on to the wrong things, but God will deliver us.
God’s grace is stronger than our sin.
Psalm 139:2–4 ESV
God knows our flaws better than we do.
Q. What insecurity, recurring struggle, or difficulty connected to your family background is holding you back from what God is calling you to do, and how can trusting His grace help you take a step of faith this week?
Leader Prompt:
Remind the group that God already knows their flaws and still calls them to act in faith. Encourage them to identify one step they can take with His help, without feeling pressured to share sensitive details about their families.
2. Faith FIGHTS despite the ODDS.
Hebrews 11:33 ESV (previously read)
Judges 7:2 ESV
Gideon fought 32,000 men with only 300, eliminating his confidence in himself and leaving him to rely only on God.
1 Samuel 17:45–47 ESV
Despite opposition, David fights the Giant, knowing the battle is the Lord’s.
2 Corinthians 10:3–5 ESV
Our weapons have DIVINE power.
Weapon #1: The NAME OF JESUS – Luke 10:17
There is power in His name!
Weapon #2: The WORD OF GOD – Ephesians 6:17/Hebrews 4:12
Read Scripture over your life (openbible.info). We cannot just think the Word; we cannot just read the Word; we must speak it!
Weapon #3: The FAMILY OF FAITH – Philippians 1:27
Q. What situation feels stacked against you right now, and how could you face it differently by relying on Jesus, applying God’s Word, and involving your family of faith?
Leader Prompt:
Remind the group that Gideon and David depended on God’s power rather than their own resources. Help them move beyond simply naming the difficulty to identifying a faith-filled response. Emphasize that people are not our enemy.
Practical Application:
Choose one challenge you are facing. This week, pray in Jesus’ name, find a Scripture that guides your response, and ask a trusted believer to pray with you and encourage you as you act on God’s Word.
3. Faith FIGHTS with STRENGTH God SUPPLIES.
Hebrews 11:34 ESV
God puts strength in us. Strength is not yours; it is God’s.
Ephesians 6:10 ESV
Q. When has God given you strength to keep going when you felt you had nothing left, and how does remembering that help you face today’s challenges?
Leader Prompt:
Help the group recognize that depending on God does not mean doing nothing. It means seeking His help and taking the next obedient step, trusting Him to supply strength even when they feel weak.
Practical Application:
Begin each day this week by praying the prayer from the message. Identify one situation where you feel depleted, ask God for strength, and take one step of obedience without waiting until you feel strong enough.
Sermon in a sentence:
Faith is not passive DEPENDENCE; it’s active ENGAGEMENT in the BATTLES of life.
Pray this prayer over your life:
Father, despite my flaws and failures, I believe You are working in me right now to help me overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil.
I depend on Your strength, not my own; on Your grace, not my works.
Empower Your weakened servant with Divine strength to fight in Jesus’ Name.
