SATURDAY MORNING PRAYER AND 6:00 AM WORSHIP ON PAUSE THROUGH THE SUMMER.

NOTE:

Two opportunities to pray:

Leaders only: Please be available at the end of services to pray for those who come forward. If you are not actively serving during the service you are attending, make it a priority to head to the front when the invitation is given. Your presence matters!

North Attleboro Leaders and members: If you or any member of your group who currently serves is available, there is an opportunity to meet for prayer in the conference room off the break room during the second and third services.  Please see Doug and Joanie White or Felix Shyllon if you would like to be a part of that ministry.

Please note: if you have a member who is not currently serving and would like to be part of the prayer during the service team, please have them take the appropriate steps to become a serve team member.

NORTH ATTLEBORO

Prayer at the Altar – AFTER SERVICES

If possible, please make an effort to be at the altar after this service to pray for others.

Your presence makes a difference—thank you for serving!

**Please read all scripture in the ESV, unless otherwise noted.**

**The Leader prompts help you, as the leader, move the conversation along.**

Key Verse: Acts 9

ICE BREAKER

Q.  If you could add one completely useless but hilarious feature to your car, what would it be?

Examples: popcorn dispenser, confetti cannon, karaoke machine, hot dog roller, etc.

Opening Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that You see beyond our accomplishments, failures, and qualifications. Open our hearts tonight to understand Your grace more deeply. Help us trust that You can use anyone who is willing to surrender to You. Teach us to rely on Jesus and not ourselves. In His name, Amen.

________________________________

When we are young, we are taught one thing above all else: prove ourselves. Prove we are smart enough, capable enough, and good enough. Most of us never stop; we just change the audience. For many, that audience becomes God.

When we make God an audience, we fall into the ‘performance trap.’ This shift in focus leads us to believe we must prove ourselves to God. However, there is only one performance that is acceptable to God, and that is the performance of the Son of God – Jesus.

Jesus was sinless and the perfect sacrifice that is acceptable for all sin.

1. I’ve been HANDING God a RESUME he DOESN’T WANT.

Acts 9:1-2 ESV

The performance trap is subtle.

We rarely set out to perform for God, but Satan subtly convinces us that we need to earn God’s approval through our efforts. Like Saul, we can hide behind good religious activity, yet God is not impressed by our resume—He is looking for a surrendered heart.

Matthew 23:27-28 ESV

Q. Why is it sometimes easier to trust in our accomplishments, experience, or good behavior than to simply trust in God’s grace?

Leader Prompt:

Help the group recognize that God is not looking for a polished image or a list of achievements. He desires a genuine relationship and a surrendered heart.

Practical Application

Is there an area of your faith where you’ve been more focused on appearance, comfort, or control than on surrender to God? If you’re comfortable sharing, what would it look like to trust Him more fully in that area?

2. God doesn’t CALL the EQUIPPED, he EQUIPS the CALLED.

God isn’t HIRING me — he’s CALLING me. He wants a proper posture.

Acts 9:7-9 ESV

Both Saul and Ananias show us two sides of the same truth. God was looking for one thing from both of them: surrender. He doesn’t need our capabilities — he’s looking for our availability.

Acts 9:13-14,17 ESV

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

The call to surrender our own reasoning and resume to God’s direction.

James 4:10 ESV

Good posture is the starting point in God’s kingdom.

Q. What is one area where you’ve been saying, “Yes, Lord, but…”? What would it look like for you to set aside your excuses, fears, or qualifications and simply say yes to God?

Leader Prompt:

Remind the group that God often works through people who feel inadequate so that His power and faithfulness are clearly seen.

3. Jesus’s PERFORMANCE is the only ONE THAT COUNTS.

Jesus is the true and perfect fulfillment of everything Saul and Ananias were only shadows of.

  • He left the glory of heaven and traveled to a far land to rescue people who were actively his enemies.
  • He didn’t draw near to the Father through religious performance — he drew near through prayer, dependence, and intimacy.
  • When the hardest assignment came, he had no “yea, but.” His submission was complete. His life was sinless. His sacrifice was accepted. That is the only resume God accepts — and through faith, it becomes ours.

– We don’t earn our way in. We believe he’s the Savior, and we receive his forgiveness.  God didn’t design us for ritual. He designed us to belong to him.

John 3:17 ESV

Romans 5:8 ESV

Luke 22:41-42 ESV

2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV

Hebrews 4:15–16 ESV

Q. How does remembering what Jesus has done for you change the way you view your own failures and shortcomings?

Leader Prompt:

Encourage the group to focus on Christ’s finished work rather than striving to earn God’s approval through performance.

Practical Application:

When you feel inadequate this week, intentionally thank Jesus for His righteousness and approach God with confidence through Him.

3 Key Takeaways

1. God wants our surrender more than our qualifications.

2. God equips those He calls when they trust and obey Him.

3. Jesus has already accomplished what we never could, and His performance is enough.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You that Your love is not based on our resume, achievements, or performance. Thank You for calling ordinary people and empowering them for Your purposes. Help us surrender our fears, insecurities, and self-reliance to You. Teach us to trust in Jesus alone and to walk boldly in the calling You have placed on our lives. May we rest in Your grace and live by faith this week. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
