NOTE:

Two opportunities to pray:

Leaders only: Please be available at the end of services to pray for those who come forward. If you are not actively serving during the service you are attending, make it a priority to head to the front when the invitation is given. Your presence matters!

North Attleboro Leaders and members: If you are available, or any member of your group who currently serves is available, there is an opportunity to meet for prayer in the conference room off of the break room area during the second and third services.  Please see Doug and Joanie White or Felix Shyllon if you would like to be a part of that ministry.

Please note: if you have a member who is not currently serving and would like to be part of the prayer during the service team, please have them take the appropriate steps to become a serve team member.

NORTH ATTLEBORO

Prayer at the Altar – AFTER SERVICES

If possible, please make an effort to be at the altar after this service to pray for others.

Your presence makes a difference—thank you for serving!

**Please read all scripture in the ESV, unless otherwise noted.**

KEY VERSE: 1 Samuel 15

Ice Breaker:
Q. What’s a role, title, or responsibility you once wanted that didn’t turn out the way you expected?
Opening Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for gathering us together today. As we open Your Word, help us examine our hearts honestly. Teach us the difference between chasing position and cultivating a posture that honors You. Shape our desires, correct our pride, and draw us closer to Your heart. Amen.

Posture over Position
We are taught that status and position are important, but we do not always have to be number one.  We do not always have to be in the top position.
1 Samuel 15:1–9
God anointed Samuel to be king.
Saul was someone who relentlessly chased after the number one spot, compromising his integrity and his faith.

Leader Insight Box
Some group members may strongly identify with leadership roles or feel discouraged by the lack of recognition. Gently guide the discussion toward heart posture rather than outward success, reminding the group that God measures faithfulness differently than the world does.

Dangers of Worldly Position:
Danger #1: PRIDE & SELF-EXALTATION
Saul started as a very humble leader; as he gained power, he subtly began to forget what God had brought him from.
1 Samuel 9:21 ESV; 1 Samuel 15:17 ESV; Proverbs 16:18 ESV
Q. How can pride subtly grow when position or influence increases?
Leader Prompt:
Help the group see that pride often begins quietly. Encourage humility as an ongoing posture, not a one-time decision.
Danger #2: DISOBEDIENCE
Saul repeatedly disobeyed God’s command.
1 Samuel 15:22-23 ESV
Saul justified his actions, trying to save what God told him to destroy.
God needs to come first before everything else.  Everything we own is His, not ours.
God desires our hearts more than our position with people.  Partial obedience is still disobedience.
Q. In what ways can obedience become conditional for us, where we follow God partway while holding on to what we believe we can justify?
Practical Application:
Identify one area where God may be calling you to full obedience, even if it feels costly.
Danger #3: SELF- AMBITION
Saul was ambitious, and he let his rejection as king get to him.
Ambition will kill you.
1 Samuel 13:14 ESV
Q. How can self-ambition quietly replace a desire to honor God?
Practical Application:
Surrender your plans and goals to God in prayer, asking Him to realign them with His purposes.
Heaven-Honoring Postures
Posture #1: REPENTANCE
Psalm 51:10 ESV
David was a flawed man, but he was a man after God’s heart.  David’s posture reflected God.
David’s heart was very remorseful.  He would sin and repent.  He had conviction by the Holy Spirit.
He recognized his wrongdoing and always took responsibility for his mistakes.
Q. What does genuine repentance look like beyond saying “I’m sorry,” and how does David’s response to sin model a heart that truly wants to be changed?
Leader Prompt:
Create a grace-filled environment. Emphasize that repentance leads to restoration, not condemnation.
Practical Application:
Spend intentional time this week asking God to search your heart and renew your spirit.
Posture #2:  PRAISE & WORSHIP
Psalm 34:1
David praised God even in the middle of the storm, whether he felt like it or not.
We need to get to a place with God where we do not care what others say.
We need to let the world know how great our God is.  He wants and deserves our praise.
Q. What changes in our hearts when praise becomes a choice we make in difficult seasons rather than a response to good circumstances?
Leader Prompt:
Help the group see worship as a posture of the heart, not just a song or moment.
Practical Application:
Choose to praise God daily this week, especially in moments of frustration or disappointment.
Posture #3: SERVANTHOOD & HUMILITY
1 Samuel 30:8 ESV
David had a shepherd’s heart, and he cared for his flock.
Knowing he was going to take Saul’s place, he still served him.
David humbled himself before the Lord.  His character was marked by praise, repentance, and humility.
Q. What does servant leadership look like in everyday life?
Practical Application:
Look for one intentional way to serve someone this week without seeking recognition.
Sermon in a sentence:
God isn’t looking for people CHASING POSITIONS—He’s looking for HEARTS POSTURED at His feet.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank You for caring more about our hearts than our titles. Teach us to walk humbly, obey faithfully, and serve willingly. Help us cultivate postures that honor You in every season of life. Align our hearts with Yours and keep us close to Your feet. Amen.
