Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that leads us into freedom. Open our hearts and minds to hear from You today. Help us to let go of what holds us back and step into the new life You have prepared for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
We are in a season of spiritual awakening. One hundred fifty-nine people stood for salvation last weekend!
_____
Every significant transition in life requires a Clean Break. When God is moving significantly, we need to move with Him and make clean breaks with our past.
Recap of the Players in Exodus:
Egypt – the World
Pharaoh – the Devil
Moses – the Saviour
Israel – the Flesh
Our flesh is our eternal enemy.
To experience the BEST God has for your FUTURE, you need to make a CLEAN BREAK from the PAST.
God calls Israel to do that in two ways: through communion and baptism.
Exodus 13:17–22 ESV
God was with them day and night. He led them. He was before them.
Exodus 14:1–12
God gives Moses a heads-up on what is going to happen. He told them the enemy was going to come after them.
The Israelites forgot who was before them and focused on what was behind them.
1. In order to make a clean break, we must STOP LOOKING BACK.
God will lead you, and the devil will chase you. You either look back or forward.
Israel had a bigger problem than Egypt. Themselves. They were set apart from Egypt, but still had a strong hold in their minds and hearts.
Hebrews 12:1–3 ESV
Q. How do you find yourself looking back instead of trusting God with your future?
Practical Application: Is there something specific that distracts you that someone would like to share?
Fix your eyes on Jesus daily through prayer and Scripture so you don’t get distracted by the past.
2. In order to make a clean break, we must STOP STRESSING and START TRUSTING.
Exodus 14:13–14
God tells them:
1. Fear not.
2. Stand firm. (Don’t run).
3. Be silent.
Titus 3:5 ESV
It’s God’s saving work, not your getting saved, that secures your future.
When we DOUBT, God doesn’t BACK OUT.
Psalm 46:10 ESV; Exodus 14:15-16 ESV; Exodus 14:21–25 ESV
Moses’ obedience led to the people’s deliverance.
Q. Where are you tempted to stress instead of trusting God’s power and timing?
Practical Application: Surrender one area of worry to God this week and take a specific action that shows you are trusting Him.
3. In order to make a clean break, we must STOP FOCUSING on US, and GIVE GLORY to GOD.
The work of our salvation isn’t really about us. It’s for God’s glory.
Exodus 14:4
When you don’t have the strength, God brings you through.
Exodus 14:30–31 ESV
This is the Israelites’ baptism. Paul uses this event to represent a picture of baptism:
1 Corinthians 10:1–4 ESV
Q: How can you shift the focus from yourself to God’s glory in your current situation?
Practical Application: Share one story with someone this week that highlights God’s work in your life, giving Him the glory.
Concluding Thoughts:
1. Israel was SAVED FIRST and BAPTIZED SECOND.
2. Israel was SAVED because Moses OBEYED.
Galatians 3:26–27
3. Israel was brought to BAPTISM while the ENEMY sought to STOP them.
Q. Why is baptism an essential step of obedience after salvation, and how does it strengthen our witness to others?
Practical Application:
Have you been baptized since becoming a Christian? If not, it is time.
Reflect on your salvation, commit to one act of obedience this week, and encourage someone else who may be facing opposition in their walk with Christ.
Closing Prayer:
Father, thank You for saving us and leading us. Help us leave the past behind, trust You fully, and live for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
