**Please read all scripture in the ESV, unless otherwise noted.**
Key Verse: Genesis 1:27
Ice Breaker
What is one thing you loved doing as a child that you would still enjoy today?
Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for creating us in Your image and giving us purpose. We ask for Your wisdom as we discuss how to teach and train our children in Your truth. Help us see how to speak life and destiny into the next generation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
____________________________________
Secularism has failed our children. The Scriptures identify what the devil wants to deconstruct in the Bible.
We must fill God’s children with a sense of Divine destiny.
1. Teach them they are CREATED by God, MALE or FEMALE.
Genesis 1:27
4 REASONS for MALE and FEMALE:
- That humanity might PARTNER to bear God’s image.
Men alone do not bear the full image of God. Women alone do not bear the full image of God. Together, men and women bear the full image of God.
Genesis 2:18; Genesis 2:23
The first woman came from man, and every man since has come forth from a woman.
B. That humanity might DEPEND on each other.
Only a man and a woman can create a human.
Genesis 1:28; 1 Corinthians 11:11
Q. In what everyday ways can you teach your children to value both genders, embrace their God-given identity, and practice respect and cooperation with others as a reflection of God’s image?
C. That humanity might DISTINGUISH one from the other.
God makes distinctions from the first page of the Bible ot the end of the story in Revelation.
- The creation account (light and dark, land and sea).
- The Leviticus codes (clean and unclean).
- The last day of judgment (sheep and goats, the righteous and the unrighteous).
Deuteronomy 22:5
Men and women are encouraged to embrace and celebrate their differences fully.
1 Corinthians 11:14–15
Making distinctions is a vital and frequently used life skill. Without making distinctions, life becomes chaotic and complicated.
D. That humanity might DECLARE the GOSPEL.
Ephesians 5:31–32
In the marriage covenant, we see God’s saving grace at work. The man lays down his life for his wife, and the woman submits to and respects the man.
Christ is the cosmic husband, and the Church, His bride, becomes ONE before the Father.
1 John 4:17
Q. In what ways can honoring the distinctions between male and female help children understand God’s truth and reflect His Gospel to the world?
Practical Application:
Consistently uphold your children’s God-given identity as male or female and teach them to value both. Model relationships that reflect God’s design, and use daily moments to point them to the Gospel with grace and truth.
2. Teach them that God SAVES by His GRACE.
Exodus 12:26–27 – This is a lesson in eternal sacrifice.
God saved us by the blood of another. Blood silences the accuser.
Parents need to teach their children that God saves us by His grace. It is not about our level of faith, but about God’s faithfulness.
1 Peter 1:18–19
Your children need to see the testimony of God in your life. They need to see a humble heart that never tires of thanking God for His amazing grace.
Q. How can you use your daily actions and conversations to help your children understand and personally respond to God’s grace?
Practical Application:
Share stories of how God’s grace has transformed your own life, and regularly point your children back to the cross as the foundation of Salvation, not their performance. Build rhythms of gratitude into your home, like praying together and thanking God specifically for His forgiveness and faithfulness.
3. Teach them that God SET them APART for GREAT WORKS.
Begin with Creation, then proceed to Salvation, and ultimately, Destiny.
There are no perfect families in the Bible.
Genesis 37:3
A father set his son apart, and Joseph became the one God used to save Israel.
Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers, is falsely accused of rape and thrown into prison. He remains faithful, forgives his brothers, and saves the nation by providing them with grain.
All of this started because his father set him apart with a sense of destiny. Now in Christ, every person who surrenders their life to Him has that same privilege.
Matthew 5:14
Luke 12:32
John 15:19
Q. How can you intentionally show your children—and remind yourself—that God has set them apart for a purpose, even when life is difficult or seems unfair?
Practical Application: Speak words of calling and destiny over your children, reminding them regularly that they have a unique and God-given purpose in His kingdom.
Sermon in a Sentence
When we speak God’s TRUTH over our sons and daughters, we SET them APART, ANCHOR them in God’s CALLING, and PROPEL them into DIVINE DESTINY.
Key Takeaways:
Discuss three key takeaways you received from this message.
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for entrusting us with the next generation. Give us courage and faith to speak Your truth over our children. May they walk in Your grace, live in their God-given identity, and fulfill the destiny You have prepared for them. In Jesus Name, Amen.
