Key verse: Proverbs 15

Ice Breaker Question:

What’s one silly or small thing that can instantly change your mood, for better or worse?

Many things break in our lives.  When things break and we don’t repair them, they start to accumulate.  If you don’t work on fixing them, life can become difficult very quickly.

Our Attitude is one of the things we need to fix.

My Attitude = My EMOTIONAL STATE.

Genesis 4:5-7 (ESV)

Both Cain and Abel, our first ancestors, brought an offering to God. God accepts only Abel’s offering.   He did not accept Cain’s offering, nor did he look upon it with favor.

Genesis 4:8 (ESV)

In this passage, we read about the first murder in the Bible. Cain’s bad Attitude regarding God not accepting his offering led to bad actions.

  1. My Attitude Is My CHOICE.

You are not a victim.

Our world teaches that your emotions and mindset are shaped by what happens to you. Culture hands us an excuse: if life is hard, a bad attitude is justified.

Proverbs 15:15 (NLT)

Colossians 3:2 (ESV)

Romans 12:2 (NLT)

My Attitude directly SHAPES my experience.

“Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be.” – Abraham Lincoln.

Q. What’s one area in your life where it’s hardest to choose a godly attitude?

Practical Application:

Each morning this week, ask God to help you choose your Attitude before reacting to anything. Write a reminder or prayer that you’ll see regularly, such as on your phone or bathroom mirror.

  1. My Attitude Is A PRODUCT Of What I CONSUME.

Philippians 4:8 (ESV)

We need to consume massive amounts of positive input because we’re constantly surrounded by overwhelming negative content, primarily through social media and the news. Since we’re already naturally inclined toward negativity, taking in negative input only amplifies that mindset. Positive input is essential to counteract it.

Q. How do the things you read, watch, or listen to impact your outlook?

Practical Application:

Take inventory of your media and inputs this week. Replace one negative influence with something that feeds your spirit—worship music, a Bible verse, a godly podcast, or an uplifting conversation.

  1. A GODLY Attitude Sees Difficulty As A DOORWAY To GROWTH.

When difficulties come—like job loss, betrayal, illness, or accidents—we often interpret them as purely negative. That perspective leads to discouragement, anger, and despair.

But what if we viewed difficulty as opportunity—a way forward, not a setback?

Challenges can grow our strength, wisdom, empathy, leadership, patience, and trust in God.

Reframing hardship this way makes us spiritually resilient and unstoppable.

James 12:2-4 (NLT)

FACT: Hard things will come. What Attitude will you CHOOSE?

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)

The joy set before Jesus wasn’t in the suffering of the cross—it was in what the cross would accomplish. There was no joy in the pain, humiliation, or death itself.

The true joy was in reconciling you to God—in making a way for a personal relationship with you.

Jesus endured the cross because He saw the eternal opportunity in the difficulty, and He did it out of love for you.

Q. When have you seen growth in your life come from a difficult season?

Practical Application:

Identify a current challenge you’re facing. Ask God to show you how it could become a pathway to deeper trust. Journal what He reveals or share with a trusted friend for encouragement.

Sermon in a sentence:

CHOOSE To ROOT Your Attitude In Jesus, FEEDING Your Heart With His PROMISES, So Challenges Become DOORWAY To Deeper TRUST And Spiritual STRENGTH
