Ice Breaker Question:
What’s the most unexpected invitation you’ve ever received—and did you say yes or no?
Opening Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us into a deeper relationship with You. Give us ears to hear Your voice, courage to follow, and hearts willing to obey. May we walk boldly into the purpose You have for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
———————————————-
God is calling, are we listening?
Every believer is called to salvation, surrender, and service. He does not just call pastors and missionaries.
Five Truths about Embracing God’s Call:
1. RELATIONSHIP: Building Intimacy with God
Genesis 12:1
God not only calls Abram to a place, but also to Himself.
Hebrews 11:8 – Call means to invite.
Romans 8:30a, Isaiah 43:1b
Relationship is the foundation of calling. Everything begins with knowing God, not doing for Him.
This wasn’t just RELOCATION. This was TRANSFORMATION.
Q. If God is calling each of us into a relationship, not just responsibility, how might that shift the way we think about our purpose?
Practical Application:
Set aside intentional time this week to deepen your relationship with God through prayer and Scripture. Ask Him to show you what He’s preparing you for.
2. OBEDIENCE: Responding in Faith
Genesis 12:4; Hebrews 11:6
Obedience is not always perfect.
“Faith” (pistis) = confident trust in divine truth.
“Obedience” (hupakoe) = to submit by hearing.
Biblical obedience is the result of hearing and trusting enough to follow.
Romans 10:17, Acts 7:2-4
God still honors imperfect obedience. Obedience is a journey, not a single moment. Partial obedience does not erase the promise.
God does not require perfection; He requires trust.
Q. How does knowing that God honors imperfect obedience encourage you in your faith journey?
Practical Application:
Write down what you believe God is asking of you. Take a small step this week in obedient faith, even if the whole picture isn’t clear.
3. DISRUPTION: When God’s Call Breaks Comfort and Unlocks Purpose
Genesis 12:1
God’s call rarely fits our comfort zones. He is after purpose, not convenience.
Abram left without details.
Moses, Jeremiah, the disciples, and Paul all experienced divine disruption.
Action Steps:
• LISTEN – Through Scripture, prayer, or wise counsel.
• REFLECT – What is God nudging you to leave behind?
• OBEY – Even when it doesn’t all make sense.
• TRUST – He won’t give you the whole map, but He will go with you.
Q. Why do you think God often calls us out of comfort before revealing purpose?
Practical Application:
What might be a comfort zone God is calling you to step out of? (Leader, ask if anyone would like to share.) Discuss it with someone and pray for the courage to take action.
4. DISCERNMENT: Hearing God’s Voice Amid Life’s Noise
Genesis 12:4a
Real discernment is not knowing the whole plan, but knowing the One who calls.
Purpose flows from discernment. You cannot follow a voice you are not listening for.
Q. What helps you hear God’s voice when life is busy or confusing?
Practical Application: Choose a day this week to unplug from distractions for an hour. Use that time to be still before God and ask for clarity and discernment.
5. FRUITFULNESS: Obedience That Produces Lasting Impact
Genesis 12:2-3
Fruit follows obedience. Abram’s ‘yes’ produced generational, global, and eternal fruit.
John 15:5b
Obedience activates God’s promises.
FRUIT comes from abiding.
ABIDING leads to obedience.
OBEDIENCE leads to fruit.
Obedience plants seeds that others will harvest.
Q. How have you seen fruit from a past act of obedience to God?
Practical Application:
Reflect on one area where you’re bearing fruit and one where God may be inviting more growth. Stay connected to Him this week through practices that foster abiding.
Sermon in a Sentence:
Embracing God’s call begins with RELATIONSHIP, is fueled by OBEDIENCE, challenges our COMFORT, requires DISCERNMENT, and leads to a life of lasting FRUITFULNESS.
Three Key Takeaways (Briefly discuss):
1. Your calling begins with deepening your relationship with God.
2. Obedience isn’t forced—it flows from faith and activates His promises.
3. God may disrupt your comfort to unlock His purpose in you.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank You for calling us into something greater than we can imagine. Help us to trust You completely, obey You boldly, and abide in You daily. May our lives bear fruit that glorifies You and blesses others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
