Key Verse: Proverbs 3

Ice breaker:

Q. If you had to choose only one restaurant to eat at for the rest of your life, what would that be and why?

It’s Not About Money

It’s All About Trust

Proverbs 3:1-10

Trust in God.

Who do you trust? We grow up trusting our parents our teachers and mentors. Trusting that what we are taught is truthful and helpful. Trust is a serious thing.

When you put your trust in someone or something, you become vulnerable.

Today people do not care to listen or learn from their elders but instead look to social media influencers.   Many things in society today lead us to be less likely to trust.

‘Good decisions come from experience and experience comes from bad decisions.’ – Unknown Auther

Who can you trust?

A Trustworthy person is Authentic, Consistent, Compassionate, Resourceful, Humble, Available, and Kind.

Jesus is all of the above.

5 benefits of Trusting God

  1. Trust God for a Satisfying and Abundant life.

Proverbs 3:1-3 (ESV)

These are not absolute promises, but if we listen to God’s advice then we are more likely to have a long, peaceful, and satisfying life.

Psalm 91:16 (ESV); John 10:10 (ESV)

Abundant life means a satisfying life. It is not always easy, or not always plentiful in material things, but it brings joy, happiness, peace, and satisfaction.

True satisfaction, the true “long” life is the eternal one given to all those who believe in Christ!

Trust in God and you will live a better more satisfying life without an unforeseen interruption, hopefully a long life.

Q.  How does the fact that true satisfaction comes from eternal life influence the way we live our daily lives? Discuss how trust in God can shape our priorities, decisions, and interactions with others, especially in times of uncertainty or difficulty.

2. Trust God and Gain Favor with Him and People.

Proverbs 3:3-4 (ESV)

The Hebrew word for “favor” comes from a verb meaning “to be gracious to.” The word can be translated as “grace” or “kindhearted” or “charm,” and carries the idea of popularity or approval.

Favor often comes after a test or a disaster.  We gain favor from God when we believe in Christ and we get our example from Jesus.

Luke 2:40 (ESV); Luke 2:52 (ESV)

No one had more favor from God than Jesus.  If you call yourself a follower of Christ you should try and emulate Him. The more you become like Christ the more you will see His favor in your life, as you transform into the image of His son.

Q.  Can you share a personal experience or a biblical example where favor was evident after a significant challenge? How does this pattern encourage you in your faith journey, especially during difficult times?

3. Trust God and He will Direct your Decisions.

The world says it’s not about the destination but the journey.  As a Christian, you know it is about the destination, and knowing where you are going makes the journey better.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

You can take your path or follow others but what if you are following the wrong people?

James 1:5 ESV

When making decisions in your life, with relationships, work, school or finances it is so much better when you trust God!

Q.  Can you share an experience where the influence of others significantly impacted a decision you made? How did you discern whether those influences were aligned with God’s wisdom as suggested in James 1:5?

4. Trust God and He will Save you from Foolishness.

Proverbs 3:7-8 (ESV)

Trusting God will invigorate you!  We need to trust Christ not trust ourselves.

Proverbs 28:26 (ESV)

The world is filled with foolish people who follow foolish desires.  God calls you to trust Him and walk in wisdom and therefore be blessed!

Following your heart will lead you astray, even in money, it will lead to you wasting it on useless things. Following your heart and being foolish with money will get you in debt.

Matthew 15:19 (ESV); Romans 1:22-23 ESV

Q. How can we discern the difference between a wise investment and a foolish expense? Share strategies or practices that help you seek God’s guidance in managing finances.

5. Trust God and He will Provide for you.

Proverbs 3:9-12 (ESV)

So many people say that they trust God but ignore the part about money, If that’s you, you could be missing out on the next level that God wants to take you in Faith!

This is not a prosperity message but when you trust God He will supply all your needs.

Philippians 4:19 ESV

Sermon in a sentence: If you Trust God  you will have an Abundant Life now and an Abundant Life for Eternity.

Challenge: Pray for guidance to understand what it means to truly trust God with your finances. Commit to a specific change in your financial behavior that you believe God is leading you towards (e.g., creating a budget, increasing your giving, cutting unnecessary expenses).
