Ice Breaker

Q. If you could travel back in time and have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

ACTS 2:38-39 (NKJV); MATTHEW 3:11 (NKJV); JOHN 7:38-39 (NKJV); EPHESIANS 5:18-19 (NKJV); ZECHARIAH 4:6 (NKJV)

The Church desperately needs the Holy Spirit today.

The Spirit of the anti-Christ was present in John’s day, and today he is more visible than ever before. This generation is seeing just how evil the anti-Christ really is. He has one goal and one purpose: to remove God from the face of the earth.

The Church needs to wake up! We need men and women who are filled with the Holy Spirit. We must ask the Holy Spirit daily to fill us so we can overflow with rivers of Living Water.

Q. What is your most memorable and impactful experience with the Holy Spirit?

Recap:

Last week’s message taught us that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not bow and worship the idol. Because they did not bow, Nebuchadnezzar threw them into the fiery furnace. Three went in, but four came out. Jesus was with them in the fire!

If we boldly stand for Jesus Christ, the fourth man will be with us also. Jesus will be with us!

Q. Knowing that Jesus Christ will be with us, how can we boldly stand for Him in our daily lives?

Story of Sampson (you can read this full story in Judges 16:1-31)

Sampson walked in obedience to God. His story begins with Sampson delivering God’s people from the hands of the Philistines. At first God’s people walked in obedience to God but then they started worshipping idols. God allowed the enemy to take them into bondage. They suffered and cried out to the Lord, and God sent a deliverer. Sampson was anointed and did great things. He was a man moved by the Spirit of God. Then, Sampson stopped walking in the Light. He stopped obeying God. Sampson broke his vows as a Nazarite, and then the secret of his strength was revealed. The Spirit of God had departed from him. Sampson then cried out to God so he could avenge the Philistines, and God bestowed His grace upon him once again. Even though Sampson asked God to return his power only for selfish reasons, God’s grace gave him strength. God’s plan for this mighty deliverer was not to die blind and bound in prison. God’s will was still fulfilled even though Sampson walked in disobedience.

If we don’t take note of the Holy Spirit, we will end up just like Sampson.

We cannot afford, as Christians, to join the religious in talking bad about the Holy Spirit. Many Churches today have no room for the Holy Spirit.

There needs to be room in our hearts for the Holy Spirit. God’s grace is wonderful, and God had grace on Sampson.

Q. How does the story of Sampson warn us about the consequences of disobedience and neglecting the Holy Spirit in our lives?

The Church must be open to the anointing of the Holy Spirit. People are lost, depressed, and filled with anxiety and fear. The Holy Spirit can set them free.

We cannot be about just coming together and singing songs, but we need to get encouraged and filled with the Holy Spirit. We need boldness to go into the world and speak to others about Jesus.

We must be unified and catch the vision of the Church. We must encourage and lift each other up so that we will be strong enough to stand in this day and age.

Day at Pentecost

(you can read about the Day at Pentecost in Acts 2:1-40)

The Church needs to be on fire like the Day of Pentecost. We must be committed to the House of God, gathering and attending church regularly.

At Pentecost, they were baptized with fire. The Spirit gave each one utterance as they spoke in other languages. Everyone heard in their own language. It was a miraculous thing.

Some people thought they were drunk because:

1.       They were loud.

2.      They were happy and filled with joy.

3.      They were bold.

Peter had tremendous boldness and spoke a strong message because he was filled with the Holy Spirit. Three thousand people were saved that day.

This is why the Holy Spirit is given to us. We need to receive power, first to witness to our families and places where we live and then to go elsewhere and proclaim the Gospel.

Towns, cities, countries, and nations will change when God’s people are filled with His Holy Spirit and speak with boldness.

Q. Reflecting on the Day of Pentecost, what practical steps can we take as a church to cultivate a greater sense of unity, encouragement, and empowerment through the Holy Spirit?

Q. How can we create an environment where boldness and joy are evident, leading to community transformation?

Temple for the Lord (you can read about the Temple in 1 Kings):

Solomon built the Temple for the Lord. The Ark of the Covenant was put in its rightful place, and the glory of the Lord came down.

Psalm 136:1 Oh give thanks to the Lord, He is good! His mercy endures forever.

2 Chronicles 7:1 When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

The people were united.

Q. Psalm 136:1 emphasizes giving thanks to the Lord because He is good and His mercy endures forever. How can cultivating a posture of gratitude and recognizing God’s goodness contribute to experiencing His glory and presence in our lives? Share a specific instance where expressing gratitude has brought you closer to God.

*****Pray for each other to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
