Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:1-8 (NKJV)

Matthew 24:4-5

Jesus told His followers to see that no one deceives them.  He told them to be careful of deception even as they walked with Him.

We, the Church, need to hear that today.  There is a tremendous amount of deception going on and there is a gospel being preached that does not line up with the Word of God.  We need to understand the true Gospel.

Ice-breaker:

Q. What is a current example of false prophets deceiving people?

1 Corinthians 15:1-8 (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul, originally named Saul, was a religious man who hated followers of Jesus.  He persecuted Christians and had tremendous hatred for them.  Then one day, he met Jesus face to face and Saul’s mind was renewed and became the Apostle Paul.  God used him in miraculous ways, he had a tremendous calling and anointing.

Paul warned against false gospels.

Galatians 1:9

The Gospel is, Jesus, God’s Son came into the world to die for our sin, not for our self esteem.  We are sinners by birth, conduct, and choice.  Only through the grace and mercy of God the lost can be saved.

There are many false gospels today: social gospel, love gospel (that God is love and will never judge.  This clearly contradicts the Bible), the prosperity gospel (this one worships money not Jesus), the environmental gospel, the gospel of consumerism (Jesus is not our ‘need meeter’, but many present Him to others that if we have a need we should come to Jesus.  We should come to Jesus because we are sinners and need our minds transformed so we can become a new creation).

Q. What might be one or more of these false gospels you have been caught up in and why?

We cannot be saved by gimmicks, but only by the blood of Jesus.  It was a high price He paid for us.

Four things we must preach today:

  1. Repentance

Matthew 3:2

When we fail Him, we have the opportunity to turn around and go the opposite direction.  We must change our direction and stop doing what we need to stop doing.  The Holy Spirit convinces us that we are living wrongly but He does not beat us up, He convicts us. The general condition of the Church is why the world is what it is today.

Q. What might be something the Holy Spirit is convincing you of right now that you need to change direction?

  1. Call on the name of Jesus

Romans 10:9

Whoever calls on the name of Jesus shall be saved.  There is power in that name.  The disciples understood it.  They casted out demons and healed the sick.  When we call on His name, our lives can be transformed and changed.  Our God is a loving God and no matter where we are, he can change us.

Q. Though, as  a Christian, you know there is power in the name of Jesus, however, what might inhibit you from calling on His name in a particular situation and truly believing Jesus can change your situation?

  1. To surrender

When we raise our hands, we are surrendering ourselves to Jesus.  He knocks on our hearts and He wants to reign in our lives and be Lord.

Q. If you have yet to surrender your life to Christ, what its stopping you?

Q. What might have prevented you from coming to Christ before you were saved?

  1. Witness to others

When we confess and surrender, and repent, salvation becomes a reality.  We are to be light to others.  We are to witness wherever we go.  We are to be baptized in the Holy Spirit for the power to witness to the utter most parts of the world.  Now is the time for the Church to stand up and be witnesses.  We need the Holy Sprit to give us power.

Q. What inhibits you from witnessing to others?

Q. What is a recent testimony you can share regarding witnessing to others?

2 Corinthians 5:17

Challenge: Repent, Surrender, and ask the Holy Spirit to give you power to be a bold witness for Christ.
