So many people lack purpose in their lives, especially young people. A lot of people don’t know for what they were made. Because God made us for a purpose, if we don’t know what that purpose is we will just bang our head against whatever nail is sticking out of whatever piece of wood. There is a lot of pain from being mis-used.
Ice-Breaker:
Q. What example do you see in society today of those who do not know they have a purpose?
PURPOSE is discovered in PROCESS not the PINNACLE of life.
So many people are aiming for the top. Maybe they want to follow a celebrity or someone who has 30 plus years experience mastering their craft. We don’t have to be like them. The purpose of God in our life is a process.
Q. What pinnacle have you thought was the aim in your life that caused you to stumble?
Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
What God wants for our life is so much better than what we want for our life.
1. My PURPOSE is TIED to the PEOPLE God PUTS in my life.
Philippians 1:12–13 (ESV)
Paul poured his whole self and preached Christ everywhere. He was attacked, stoned, and persecuted and became the best missionary the world has ever seen. Then he was imprisoned. Paul had plans but God had purposes.
Your PURPOSE is DISCOVERED when you stop FOCUSING on what YOU WANT and start THINKING about what OTHERS NEED.
Philippians 2:3 (ESV)
Q. What are some areas in your life that you need to surrender in order to consider someone else’s needs instead of worrying about what you want?
2. My PURPOSE is FUELED through the PAIN God ALLOWS for me.
Nobody likes pain, but God allows it. Pain shapes us. Shape is not always positive but if we have Christ, our pain can be some of the best parts of our lives. We are Christians, Chris is in our name. Christ felt pain. If he was persecuted and troubled we will be also.
Philippians 1:13–14 (ESV)
Genesis 50:19–20 (ESV)
Philippians 1:15–18 (ESV)
Q. What pain in your life has shaped you and how?
3. My PURPOSE is FULFILLED when I SURRENDER My Future to God’s plan.
We got plans, God has a purpose. We don’t know what is going to happen in our future. Our plans don’t work out always the way we think or want, but God knows how they will work out.
Philippians 1:18b–21 (ESV)
Q. What plans do you need to surrender to fulfill the purpose God has for you?
Am I SURRENDERED to God’s END GAME for my LIFE?
Philippians 4:21-22 (ESV)
Sermon in a Sentence:
My purpose is in PROCESS – involving the PEOPLE around me, the PAIN within me and the END GAME God PLANS for me.
Challenge: Surrender your plans to God and allow Him to work His purposes in you.
