*PLEASE NOTE: THE QUESTIONS PROVIDED ARE GEARED TOWARD ANY TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP, NOT JUST MARRIED OR DATING COUPLES.   SOME POINTS WERE LEFT OUT ON PURPOSE IN AN EFFORT TO SHORTEN THIS GUIDE.

DISCLAIMER: This is from Saturday Night’s service.  Sunday’s service may have been slightly different.

Ephesians 4:31-31

A lot of the time we think our problem is people. Because of our sinful nature, we have to remind ourselves to be kind to one another.

We need practical wisdom on how treat other people.

1. Treat her like a rusty old truck

People used to fix things but now we just throw them away.  No one fixes things anymore.  We just toss them away.  We live in a ‘paper diaper’ world.  Many people treat their relationships the same way.  If we are quick to throw away a relationship, it is clear we don’t value people. We need to take care of things and pay attention to prevent bigger problems.  We should not wait until things get out of control.

Q. When have you allowed something to get out of control, in a relationship, that could have been prevented?

2. Treat her like a television

We need to give people our full attention.  We should not ignore people when they are talking.  Even if we have a short attention span, just listen. Even if we don’t fully understand, just acknowledge what the other is saying.

Q.  What problems have arose from you not paying attention to someone who was trying to tell you something?

3. Treat her like a teammate

Great teams have great plans.  An inferior team will beat a better team if they have a better plan.  There are people who approach life without a plan and then are shocked and appalled when things go poorly.  Life happens on purpose.  Financially successful people are so because they paid attention and made a plan.

Q. What are some areas in your relationships that would have turned out better had you made a plan (maybe finances, or something simple like a trip etc.)?

B. Great teams practice.  Work at it, it takes energy.

C. Great teams respect each others talents and abilities. We can’t get mad at someone because they don’t do what we think they should do.  We all have our own talents and abilities.

Q. When do you get frustrated when someone does not do something they way you think they should?

D. Great teams work on themselves.

E. Great teams focus on the positive.  Don’t rehearse bad things that have happened over and over again.

Q. What is something you keep bringing up in a relationship that should be left in the past?

4. Treat her like a great adventure

People live next door to great places and never visit them.  There are people who live in Hawaii and have never seen Pearl Harbor.  There are those that live in New York that have never been to the Statue of Liberty.  There are even people who live near oceans and have never been to one.  They take these things for granted.  This can also happen in relationships and we must not take another for granted.

Q. How have you taken others for granted and/or how have others taken your for granted?

Q. What great places have you lived near that you never visited?

5. Treat her like a waitress

We need to be very clear what we want and we cannot ignore others and expect that we will get what we want.

Challenge 1:  Pay close attention this week and practice these 5 points in a relationship that may be a difficult one.

Challenge 2: Visit a place close by that you have never been to.
