Key Verse: MATTHEW 21

The best is yet to come in 2021!

SERIES THEME: IT’s OKAY to MOVE:

It has been 12 months and 3 weeks of being told to stay in place.  It is time we Move again.  We need to step out and do something that pushes us forward.  It is time for people of faith to take some steps forward and believe God is going to move us ahead.

Psalm 37:23–24 (ESV); Psalm 1:6 (NLT)

We are going to take a lot of steps in our life.  If we delight in His way, He establishes our steps.  We have the Lord upholding us and that is why it is okay to Move.

Q1. What are steps you are taking to move forward (that perhaps you may have been reluctant to take)  and believing God for great things?

OR

Q2. How is God moving you forward?

Matthew 28:19 (ESV)

The Church was started with movement. Abraham was told to move. Jesus moved.  He told us to move: “Go therefore and make disciples…”  Paul takes the gospel all the way to the city of Rome.

Acts 28:31 (ESV)

Nothing stopped Paul from preaching the Gospel.

He was stoned, shipwrecked, imprisoned, and ended preaching the Gospel in Rome.  The Gospel is the World’s message.  We have to Move until the whole world hears about Jesus.

1900 – 54.3% of world “un-evangelized” – never heard of Jesus.

1970 – 44.6% of world “un-evangelized”. (10% drop in 70 years)

2000 – 30% of world “un-evangelized”. (15% drop in 30 years)

2020 – 28.3% of world “un-evangelized”. (1.7% drop in 20 years)

From 2000 to 2020 the percentage only dropped 1.7 percent.  A reason why is because many people come to church to get not give, to be served not serve.  The Church has to reclaim it’s mandate to be mission focused and Move with God.

Q. What do you suppose are some factors in why many people come to Church (the Church as a whole), to be served and not serve?

Matthew 24:14 (ESV)

Matthew 21: Jesus went to the CROSS so we could GO to the WORLD.

#1: We MOVE through the Bible to INTRODUCE to people Jesus.

The triumphal entry was Jesus’s last move before He went to the cross.  He came to die for us. To wash away all of our sins, to bring us back to God, and to move us out of sin into the power of God, the Holy Spirit.

Waters Church is about preaching the Gospel to the nations.   Jesus is the point of the Bible.  Jesus came to fix the relationship of man to God and once that is fixed all other relationships will be fixed.

Q. What is an example of how your relationships had been fixed because your relationship with God had been fixed?

Or

Q. What are some relationships in your life that need fixing?

Matthew 21:1-5

Jesus is in control the whole time. The cross was not an accident.  It was the foreknowledge of God. He knows where the donkey is and what it was tied to.  Jesus knew that scripture had to be fulfilled – Genesis to Malachi.  The scriptures are about Jesus.

John 5:39–40 (NLT)

The Bible is about JESUS!

It is not about finding the secrets to life, politics or just to help us.  Jesus is the True and Better Abel, Jospeh, Joshua, David, Job, and Daniel.  Jesus is the True and Better Hero of the Old Testament who came to fulfill the scriptures.

Matthew 5:17 (ESV); Matthew 21:6–7 (ESV)

#2: We MOVE in faith to tell the WORLD what Jesus REALLY came to do.

Mathew 21:8

As much as Jesus was in control on ‘Palm Sunday’ that is how much the disciples had no clue.  They are thinking Jesus is coming to the city to over throw the Romans and re-establish the glories of Israel like Solomon had it.

God wants to do one thing and we want God to do another. Jesus did not come to be a political hero or to overthrow the Romans.  He knew the problem with world was not political it was internal. He came to break the power of sin over our lives.

Isaiah 59:2 (ESV)

Jesus came not to SAVE us from our problems AROUND us, but the real problem WITHIN us.

Pick one or all:

Q. Why is it so difficult for us to see the problems with our world are really the problem within us?

Q. What are some problems you have or had that are really a heart issue?

Q. Even as Christians, we at times look at Jesus as more of a problem solver than who He really is, why?

Romans 3:23–24 (ESV)

This is why Jesus rode into Jerusalem over 2000 years ago, to take away our fear, anxiety, and to defeat our enemy so we can have peace with God.

#3. We MOVE with God in PRAYER as a CLEANSED HOUSE full of His PRESENCE.

Matthew 21:12–13 (ESV)

Remember the disciples think Jesus is coming to establish a new political power for Israel.  The first thing He does is drive out those in the Temple, He goes right into the Church and cleans that house.  He is not worrying about Romans, He is worrying about the House of God.

God is not FIRST concerned with FIXING the WORLD. He’s FIRST concerned with CLEANSING His CHURCH so we can REACH the world.

The world needs a church that is full of the presence of God.

We want him to change us so we can change the world.

Q. In light of what Jesus did in the Temple (Matthew 21:12-13) and the above statement, what could be a ‘bad habit’ in your own life you need to ‘drive out’ this week?

Message of 2020: Fear, Hate, and Selfishness

Faith instead of FEAR:

2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)

Fear is not from our Father.

Q. What are you fearing right now?

LOVE instead of HATE:

1 John 4:19 (ESV)

GIVING instead of SELFISHNESS:

The problem with the world is that the world loves itself.  We don’t have to learn to love ourselves, we need to learn to love others.

Galatians 6:10 (ESV) So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Leader: Have the group pray for each other regarding Faith, Love, and Giving and being filled with the presence and the power of God.
