Mark 8:22-26 (ESV)
Jesus heals in stages.
Why Jesus preforms miracles:
A. Jesus performs miracles to show compassion to humanity.
Jesus meets people where they are at. He met this man in a town filled with unbelief. He met us when we were still far from Him and deep in sin.
Q. How have you shown compassion to others in their struggles?
B. Jesus preforms miracles to show people who HE is.
C.Jesus preforms miracles to teach us about Him and how to follow Him.
Mark 8:34 (ESV)
Q. What miracles has God done in your life to strengthen your faith?
Theme: The better you see Jesus, the more you know Him. The more you know Him the more you act like Him.
Ephesians 4:15 (ESV) “
The man had good friends but also allowed Jesus to lead him.
- Good friends take you to good places!
Mark 8:22 ESV
Q. What are some good relationships and some bad relationships you have had (examples of where good friends took you to good places and bad friends took you down the wrong path)? Who are some people in your life that you could reach out to and be that ‘good friend’ to?
2.Worldly vision deteriorates but Spiritual vision develops.
Mark 8:17 ESV
Jesus is showing us here that some people need a second touch from HIM!
This man could have been satisfied seeing colors and shapes but he wasn’t, he wanted more, he wanted to see things clearly. We should not be content with our relationship with God, we should be striving for more of His blessings and to see people as Christ sees them.
Q. At what point in your journey did you really start to see who Jesus for who He really is and what do you still need to understand about Him (maybe you need to see people the way He sees them, maybe you need to understand he is in control – His Sovereignty – etc.)?
3. A. When Jesus opens your eyes you see His miracles in your life not your misfortunes.
Mark 8: 25 ESV
Q. Do you tend to focus more on your misfortunes or others mistakes than what Jesus is doing in your life, if so how and why?
3.B. When Jesus opens your eyes you become Grateful not Grouchy.
Colossians 3:15 (ESV)”
Many longtime Christians are guilty of judging others for their sins but not seeing our own.
Q. What are some struggles you have with showing Christs love to those who are far from Him and what can you do to overcome (maybe a co-worker that you don’t get along with, someone who cut you off etc.)?
3.C. When Jesus opens your eyes you are filled with compassion not coldness.
Romans 5:8 (ESV)
How can we not have compassion for others when God had compassion for us while we where still sinners. God sent Christ to pay the ransom for all of us to be rescued out of darkness. He wants us all to accept this ransom, this gift and believe in His son and His finished work. The coldness can come when we think we have earned it, when we think we are a good person. But The Gospel says no one is good enough. Thats why its Good News, its been done for us!
Q. Do you have trouble accepting salvation as a gift and not something to be earned, and if so how and why?
4. When you let Jesus Lead you He changes your vision and your destination!
Mark 8:26 ESV
This passage ends not with “go and sin no more” or “pick up your mat and walk “or “don’t tell anyone that I healed you” but He sent this man to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village. Even though Bethsaida was the home of Peter, Andrew, and Philip, the three disciples of Jesus, it was also know for its unbelief, so much that Jesus would later curse that village.
(Matthew 11:21 ESV). This town refused to believe and this is most likely why Jesus led the man out of the village.. (Mathew 13:50 ESV). It is not about doing more, it is seeing better!
This man let Jesus lead him out of the village of unbelief and told him not to go back. But He also changed his eternal destination…Let God lead you to victory!
Final Thought:
When you are SEEKING Jesus, you will SEE THE KING!
