An increasing number of Americans are living with regret. We will live with regrets if we do not take wisdom from God.
Ice-Breaker question:
Q. What are some regrets you have either serious or not so serious?
FOUNDATIONAL POINT: How I VIEW life will DETERMINE how I DO life.
If we think life is nothing but pain, we will shield ourselves. If we are miserable, we will have no joy or friends. If we think life is only hard we will not find pleasure and if we think it is just a game, we will make choices we regret. On the contrary, as Christians, if we think life is God’s waiting room for heaven, we will be so heavenly minded that we will be no earthly good and we will miss our God-given calling.
1. Life is an OPPORTUNITY – INVEST in it.
Ecclesiastes 11:1 (ESV)
We should take what we think we need to live on and put it to work. We should be investing not just gliding. We should not be wasting our time, money and talents.
We properly INVEST in life when we:
- Attempt MULTIPLE VENTURES.
We should not put all of our money in one bank, all our energies into one person, we should not close off opportunities that might be worthwhile down the road. We should be trying new things, getting recreation especially if we are stressed out.
Ecclesiastes 11:2 (ESV)
Q.What are some ventures you are investing in (opportunities, people, recreationally etc..)?
B. Be POSITIVE in spite of POTENTIAL THREATS.
Ecclesiastes 11:3 (ESV); Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NCV)
We all worry about our future but successful people press on. What we think may not work out is a disabling threat to us that will keep us from doing something that is worthwhile.
Q. What is an example of how a potential threat has kept you from doing something that could be worthwhile and why (afraid to start a business, have children, take a new job etc.)?
C. CONTINUE in our PRESENT RESPONSIBILITIES.
Ecclesiastes 11:5 (ESV); Ecclesiastes 11:6 (NLT)
We don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow so take care of today.
Wisdom: Let God take care of tomorrow’s MYSTERIES, you take care of today’s RESPONSIBILITIES.
Matthew 6:34 (ESV) “do not be anxious about tomorrow,
Q. What are you anxious about the makes your present responsibilities difficult to deal with?
BEST INVESTMENT POSSIBLE: PEOPLE
People matter
Ecclesiastes 11:2 (ESV)
2. Life is an ADVENTURE – ENJOY it.
Ecclesiastes 11:7-9 (ESV)
REJOICE
Philippians 4:4 (ESV)
SMILE
Q. Are you enjoying life and how (or why not)?
Ecclesiastes 11:8 (ESV)
Mark Twain: “What is joy without sorrow? What is success without failure? What is a win without a loss? What is health without illness? You have to experience each if you are to appreciate the other.”
Ecclesiastes 11:10 (ESV)
Get rid of the bad spirit inside. Are you angry and won’t forgive? Hateful for not taking a chance you should have? Envious of someone?
1 John 1:9 – “If we confess…”
Embrace action that gets you healthy INSIDE & OUT.
Q. What are some actions you can take to maintain good health inside and out (spiritually – do you need to forgive someone? Get rid of anger? – and physically – do you need to exercise more, eat better)?
3. Life is SHORT – MAXIMIZE it.
Ecclesiastes 12:1 (ESV)
Reality Check: I MAY GET OLD and I WILL DIE.
Ecclesiastes 12:3-6 (ESV)
4. Life is a STEWARDSHIP – SURRENDER it to the LORD who GAVE it.
Ecclesiastes 12:1 (ESV)
Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 (ESV)
Q. If how you view life determines how you do life, how is your life doing?
When my LIFE is in the HANDS of the One who MADE it, I am EMPOWERED to EMBRACE and ENJOY it, not FEAR or AVOID
