‘Don’t Go It Alone’

‘Just knowing she would see him again soon, be with someone, lifted her to a new place.’

I recently finished a book about a woman who lived alone in a shack most of her life.  It was not by choice, but person after person left her and she remained alone.  It is hard to imagine doing life alone.  Because of a life of rejection and loneliness, she hid from the world not wanting, not needing anyone.  But really?

NO.  Not really.

We are not meant to do life alone.  Even Jesus surrounded himself with people.  He had community.  This small group of people included 12 guys that He enjoyed being around.  Why is community important?  Because in community we can love and care for one another.   A new commandment (B)I give to you, (C)that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35 ESV)  When we love one another we are following Christ’s commandment.  When we follow this commandment we are building community.  This is how we build community: We pray for one another, encourage one another, grow in relationship with one another, reach out to one another, and connect with one another.   Building community is meeting each other’s needs and connecting with others to help them connect with God for the purpose of fulfilling their God-given destiny.

Where do you find community?  In Small Groups.  People who connect in Small Groups don’t have to ‘GO IT ALONE’.   In small group, we meet each other’s needs while building our relationship with Christ and each other.  Here is a great example from the early church in the Book of Acts:  And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (Acts 2:44-47 ESV)

In group we pray, fellowship, worship, grow spiritually, minister to each other, and reach out to the lost!

If you are in a Waters Church Small Group, great!  You are an advocate for Small Group!  You can tell everyone your experience and why they should get connected in one!  If you are not in one, now is the time to find one!  Just follow this link: Waters Church Small Groups

In the end, the woman in the book found a companion.  She realized the need for community and she did not end up alone!
