We offer two types of classes.  Please familiarize yourself with what these classes are about.  Feel free to sign up for one so you can better explain what they are to your group members.
Starting Point: What is Christianity all about? Is the Bible really more than just a book? Who is Jesus? No matter where we are in life, we all have questions. Starting Point is a great place to explore the faith and have safe and open discussions about some of life’s toughest questions.
Growth Track:  In this 3 part class; Discover, Deepen, & Dedicate; you will get answers to the most frequently asked questions about Waters Church and have an opportunity to ask your own. This is the perfect place to get to know the “Why” behind the “What” of who we are as a church.

Fasting and Prayer – 2019!  Theme: “Who’s Next?”
Dates: January 27th (after lunch) – January 30 (after Breakfast)
Key Verse:  Psalm 1

Last week:

  • Happiness does not just HAPPEN.
  • The right HABITS make happiness happen.

This week:

  • Habits do not START as habits.
  • Habits have always been a part of our lives;  habits shapes who you are. Habits start with “that sounds like a good idea”  or someone says, “hey have you ever thought of?”

Introduction:

Pastor Tim’s illustration about listening to others advice: “You should get a boxer puppy” changed his habits.  He now has to walk, take care of, clean up after, feed these new puppies etc. His habits changed because of listening to someone’s suggestion.

Who you are listening to today that will radically change your life tomorrow. It is in what we hear from friends, critics that lead to habits.  Habits are formed by what we hear.

American Habits: These habits exist because of who America listens to.

  • #1 country that eats fast food
  • Spends the most money on Black Friday all over the world
  • Addicted more than any other country to social media
  • Watch more TV
Q.  What are some radical changes that have happened in our life because you listened to someone else (whether it be for the better for worse)?
Do not be CONFORMED to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of our mind….

Our lives are dominated by TWO voices:

  1. Voice inside us (trusting your gut)
  2. Voice of others (how we should live; what to buy, what to look like)

WE adjust our lives into the opinions and the conformity of the patterns of others around us.  Scripture says not to let that happen. The world tells us to live according to your own rules, be different, be a rebel; but the irony is that the world all looks the same.  (two-faced)

Don’t end up living a life that you are sickened by, but one you are glad that you gave your heart and life to God.

FACT: IT IS A VERY UNHAPPY THING TO LIVE SOMEONE ELSES LIFE.

Q. Have you ever desired to live some else’s life and why?  What do you find glamorous about their life only to realize it is not so glamorous?

Steve Jobs, “Your time is limited so don’t waste your life living someone else’s.”

WEEK 2: DELVE DEEP INTO THE WORD OF GOD.
The voice you listen to FIRST and the MOST should be GOD.  (Disclosure: Don’t ignore everyone.  Listen to parents, pastors, elders, leadership, employers, government and the laws.)

Psalm 1 ESV

Psalm 1 is the  Intro to the Psalms.  Very first word is “blessed” translated “happy”.

1. I AM HAPPY WHEN I STOP LISTENING TO EVERYONE’S ADVICE.
I WILL NEVER SUFFER FROM A SHORTAGE OF BAD ADVICE.
Wicked advice is everywhere.
Q. What kind of wicked advice have you received and how did you handle this ‘so called’ advice?  What is your approach when a non-believer asks you for advice?
We need to be ready for scoffers and not let them shape who we are or listen to their advice.
I WILL BECOME WHOEVER I CHOOSE TO FOLLOW.
2. I AM HAPPY WHEN I LONG FOR THE VOICE OF GOD.

Delight means to long; The word law in Hebrew is Torah: (the instructions of God)  His word is instruction for life

Pool rules don’t help us swim, they tell us what we can’t do; don’t run, no diving etc.  A swimming instructor teaches us how to master the water. Keeps us  from drowning. How to glide through the water.  Think of God’s word like the swimming instructor not the pool rules: God’s law is not “rules’ but instructions on how to master life.  He is the One that cares about us and doesn’t want us living under the water. He wants us gliding through the courses and atmosphere of our life

Where we are ‘drowning’ is where God wants to speak to us.

Q. Where are you drowning?

(Leader, here is an opportunity to help members find scripture  in areas in which they might be drowning and also to pray for those areas in your prayer time).

Financially: Financial Peace; Relational: Get into God’s word for marriages; Business Leaders: Get into God’s word – Proverbs wisdom on business principles (and life).

3. I WILL BE HAPPY WHEN MY LIFE IS CONSISTENTLY PRODUCTIVE.
We should desire to have personal time daily where we hear God.  He wants us to prosper and be fruitful.
Q. What is the first thing you do in the morning upon waking up?  Is it spending time with God or reaching for your phone, tv etc.?  What are some distractions that keep you from having that personal time with God?

Three things in Psalms 1:3     1.) yields its fruit in season      2.) leaf does not wither  3.) he prospers

The devil works in short-term pleasure long-term pain. God works the opposite; short-term pain long-term pain.

We are not the people who listens to our hearts, we are not the people who listens to everybody, We are the people who listens to the Creator.

“With long life I will SATISFY him and show him My salvation.”

PRAYER FOR EACH OTHER, THE LOST, NIGHT TO SHINE – WEATHER AND HEALTH OF VOLUNTEERS ETC., WOONSOCKET  AS WE COME CLOSE TO SIGNING ON A LEASE TO A PERMANENT LOCATION AND OTHER UPCOMING CAMPUSES THE ROOF AS IT HAS SEVERAL LEAKS AND WILL COST MUCH $$ TO REPLACE , THE CHURCH, THE NATION AND LEADERS AND GUATEMALA MISSION.
