SCRIPTURE: James 4:1-12

Spend enough time with someone and you begin to sound like them, act like them, know what they’ll say, and how they’ll react.  You might even start to look like them…  The closer you are with someone, the more you reflect them.  We should strive to look like our Heavenly Father.  The end of each year is time of reflection over the past and resolutions for the future.

Q. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Why?

Q. What resolutions have you kept? What resolutions have you not kept?

Resolutions always begin with a problem.  The book of James is a relatable and practical book which outlines godly behavior.

James 4:1-3 (ESV)

Problems are not only the seen behavior; the real problems are the unseen behavior.  An example can be seen in Adam and Eve. Sin can’t be in the presence of God.  With Noah we can see that the real problem is man’s wickedness and evil heart.  Another good illustration is how the Israelites’ lack of trust in God caused them to deal with Goliath in contrast to David as well as man’s evil intentions as witnessed in Saul’s actions before his conversion to Paul on the road to Damascus.

Q.  Is there a problem I’m facing that needs God’s resolution?

Resolutions require work.  Noah, David, and Paul all started off small.  We should start small – work in our strength or God’s strength.  Drawing near to God will make you sound more like Him, act more like Him, and be more like Him.  You’ll begin reflecting the God in heaven who created you, who saved you, and who is building a heavenly home for you.

James 4:7-10 (ESV)

Q.  What can I do to work toward resolution?

Some Options to Draw Near to God in 2019:

Praying Reading Worship (music) Worship (life)
Strength Thoughts Finances Small Group
Baptism Serving Time Speech/Talk

Q. Which of the above is your focus to draw near to God in 2019?

The resolution is Jesus. The final resolution between us and God started as a baby.

Hebrews 9:11-14 (ESV)

Drawing near to God starts with Jesus.

Q. What resolutions has God provided in your life?

PRAY FOR EACH OTHER, THE LOST, FOR OUR CHRISTMAS SERVICES, THAT MANY WHO ARE FAR FROM THE LORD WILL COME, WOONSOCKET  AS WE COME CLOSE TO SIGNING ON A LEASE TO A PERMANENT LOCATION AND OTHER UPCOMING CAMPUSES THE ROOF AS IT HAS SEVERAL LEAKS AND WILL COST MUCH $$ TO REPLACE , THE CHURCH, THE NATION AND LEADERS AND GUATEMALA MISSION. ALSO PRAY FOR NIGHT TO SHINE, FOR GUESTS TO REGISTER AND ENOUGH PEOPLE TO SERVE.
