Key Verse 1 Timothy & Deuteronomy 20 NIV
Paul is telling Timothy to fight.  Timothy is a very normal person like us and he is facing a lot of challenges, just as we do today.  Our world does not always agree with what we agree with and we find ourselves in situations where we have to contend  for things that we believe to be true.  The world tries to distract us and pull us away from the things we have held upon, the confession of our faith in fact sometimes the world will try to dilute our faith and push us to believe all sorts of things that are not actually according to the Word of God.  We are to fight the good fight. In life we have to deal with conflict.  We can pretend the conflict does not exist or we can run from it but sometimes God brings the conflict so we can win battles.
Q. How do you deal with conflict? Can you give a specific example of where you had to contend for what you believe in?
Principles For Overcoming Life:
1. KNOW THAT GOD IS WITH YOU.
God is on our side.  We need to go back and remember the battles we have won because God was with us.  God does not want us to fail, he wants us to succeed.
1 John 4:4 NIV
If you are struggling, God may not want you to come against it, He may want you to overcome it.
Q. What are some examples of struggles you have faced that rather than removing the problem, God helped you overcome it?
2. STAY TUNED TO GOD’S WILL.
The world will try to cause us to swerve.  We should not give up meeting together.  We live in an era of Dr. Google.  We think we can solve our own problems. We live in a self-empowered society.  When we gather as a church, the preacher speaks faith into our lives so we can stand up to every battle that comes against us.  The world tries to take the faith out of our lives and put fear in its place.  When we come together and sit under the preaching of the word and we hear the word of God preached to us, we are allowing fear to be taken out and faith to be placed into our lives.
Q. What problems have you tried to solve through fear (i.e. isolation, google, worldy advice)  rather than faith (i.e. instead of going to God, church family, small group etc.) ?
THE WORD OF GOD NEEDS TO BE PRESENT IN EVERY BATTLE WE FACE.
3. CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTING FRIENDS CAREFULLY.
The Bible is not individualistic.  We are not meant to fight battles alone.  We need community.  We are to love one another.  Love is something we give not take.  Love works best when we give it away.
BE THE FAITH BUILDER PEOPLE NEED IN THEIR LIVES.
Q. What people in your life have brought you down and why?  Is there someone in your life that needs faith building and how do you plan do be that faith builder in their life?
FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH SO THAT YOU CAN TAKE HOLD OF THE ETERNAL LIFE TO WHICH YOU WERE CALLED.
