Key Verse: Genesis 8
In Genesis 6 and 7, God looked upon man and saw that man’s heart was sick. There was corruption and violence and God grieved that He made man. God was upset at man’s disobedience but He found one righteous man and chose him to build an ark because he was going to destroy all the people and animals with a flood.
Noah built the ark over a span of 100 years. As he built it, he preached that God was sending a flood to destroy them, but no one believed him. Today, many do not believe that Jesus will return one day. The sign of when Jesus will return is stated in
Matthew 24:36-37. It will be as in the days of Noah. Our society is violent. There is corruption everywhere and no regard for human life.
Q. A hundred years is a lifetime to us, do you think Noah was frustrated because no one listened? If you were Noah, do you think you would have finished building this ark or would you have given up and why?
For 5 months Noah did not hear from God.
4 THINGS TO DO WHEN GOD SEEMS SILENT
1. WE DON’T GIVE UP.
After 5 months of not hearing from God, Noah could have given up. But, God did not forget Noah and God does not forget us. He will see us through in due time. We should remain faithful in what He called us to do, continuing in His plan and purpose for our lives.
Q. What storm have you been through where it seemed like God forgot about you?
Pastor Geyser told us of how his sister and her husband had taken him in when he was a child. He was a problem child and put them through a storm. They never gave up on him and prayed to God through this storm for many years. Pastor Geyser went on to preach the gospel to many people and became a pastor.
Q. Can you give an example of where you or someone never gave up, even as it felt like God had forgotten and what was the outcome?
2. WE HAVE TO BE OBSERVANT.
God sent a sign. In verse 11, it says the dove came back with an olive leaf. The olive branch has become a symbol for peace, perhaps because it signaled the end of God’s judgment.
Q. When has it seemed hopeless to you and then suddenly you received a sign? What was the sign that made you confident that God was in control everything was going be okay?
3. WE NEED TO BE PATIENT.
Sometimes we complain, we need to wait upon the Lord.
Q. Have you ever been tired of waiting for God to do something so you did something foolish to hurry along the process? Why were you not patient and what was the outcome?
4. WE PRAISE GOD WHEN THE STORM IS OVER.
The first thing Noah did was offer up sacrifices. Noah knew God would take care of his future, so he offered up some of his animals. Noah was thankful. We must not forget to thank God and give him praise.
Q. When have you forgotten to thank and praise God for carrying you through the storm and why?
Pray for each other, the lost, campuses, nation, leaders and Kingdom Builders campaign.
