Key Verse: Hebrews 12:1-6 ESV
Recap: In part one we learned how to get connected with a power source, in part 2 we learned how to wire up to the power source. Now, we will see how we de-clutter by drawing close to the power source.
Clutter – crowd (something) untidily; a collection of things lying about in an untidy mass.
When we have clutter in our lives we tend not to have clear vision. For instance, if your windshield is dirty, you need wipers to clean it so you can see through the clutter of dirt.
De-clutter– remove unnecessary items from (an untidy or overcrowded place).
Sometimes, due to clutter in our lives, we get sluggish or the power is sucked out of us, such as apps left open on your phone or too many apps – they can be power-suckers. You may need to force close or remove the ones you are not using.
We can move the clutter around and let it suck the life out of us or we can get rid of the clutter altogether.
A CHARGED LIFE LASTS LONGER BY BEING A CLUTTER-KILLER NOT A CLUTTER-RELOCATOR.
1. WHEN I FOCUS ON JESUS, I CAN CLEARLY IDENTIFY CLUTTER.
In order to ‘lay aside’ the clutter in our lives, we need to look to Jesus; focus on Him. When we look away from Him and focus on other things that clutter our minds, that is when we lose clear vision. Jesus endured the cross, but looked to ‘the joy that was set before Him’. There are things in our lives that are arduous and difficult and get in the way because we are not ‘looking at the joy’ (Jesus who is our reward) set before us.
Q. What difficult circumstances or what things that were out of place in your life were you able to endure because you focused on Christ and the joy you have in Him?
The Deeper I Know a Subject, the Easier it is to Know When Something Doesn’t Belong.
Q. How is this true in our life? Can you give an example of where you knew something was not right because you had a deep knowledge about it’s truth?
Identifying Clutter Starts with Drawing Close to God.
Q. The more we draw close to God, the more we see His grace and mercy, how has this helped you identify some of the clutter that is filling your life?
2. WHEN I HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT, I HAVE THE ABILITY TO KILL CLUTTER.
‘by the Spirit you put to death’.
Sometimes our devices require resolutions that are beyond our capability: software updates, device hardware issues etc. We are the same – using our strength to de-clutter is being a clutter-relocator. We are not the conquerors. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the only Ones that know NO sin or fault and they are the only conquerors. Jesus conquered everything and gives us a Helper, the Holy Spirit. He is the clutter-killer in us.
The Holy Spirit in Me is the Clutter-Killer!
Q. How has the Holy Spirit helped you to get rid of the clutter as opposed to just relocating it? (ie. maybe you put certain thoughts out of your mind only to think about them again at another time but with the help of the Holy Spirit you are able to kill those thoughts completely).
3. MY CHURCH FAMILY HELPS CLEAN MY CLUTTER.
SMALL GROUP IS WHERE OUR CHURCH FAMILY WORKS THROUGH LIFE’S CLUTTER.
Q. How have you been able to help some through a difficult situation because you have been through the same thing or how has someone helped you?
DO YOU HAVE A CLUTTER-KILLING CHRISTIAN FRIEND?
Leader: Here is an opportunity to address those that are inconsistent about attending church or your small group.
Pray for each other, the lost, campuses, nation, leaders and Kingdom Builders campaign.
